The Mig-35 is the latest development of the Mig-29 family, it would be the new generation of medium/light Russian multi-role fighter.
Featuring a thrust vectoring engine, and digital fly by wire control system, the aircraft is extremely maneuverable, comparable to its larger counterpart, the Su-35. The high level of agility gives the fighter an edge not only in close combat, but also for missile evasion in beyond visual range combat scenarios, as the pilot can use high-g maneuvers to defeat the targeting or flight control computers employed by the missile.
Besides its high level of maneuverability, the aircraft is also equipped with advanced avionics, including an AESA radar with a max detection range up to 200 km, with multiple target tracking and engaging capabilities. In addition to the radar, is the OLS-35 optical radar, an IR search and track system capable of detecting hot targets with a range of 90km, especially suited for the detection of low-radar cross section targets like the F-22. The aircraft also has a secondary EO/IR sensor under its right engine nacelle, used for the search and tracking of ground targets.
The new sensors and avionics on-board the aircraft enable the aircraft to pursue an array of missions, including air-defense, air-defense suppression, ground attack and anti-ship missions.
With the production of Su-35 underway and with Mig-35 expected to enter serial production soon, the Su-35 and Mig-35 would be the duo for Russian air force in the near future.
