MAC GAMES PLAYER (yes, Virginia, we do exist). Mostly CnC Zero Hour - mostly because of the great gameplay and the great mods. Not an FPS'er (gives me wicked vertigo unfortunately), or an MMPORG'er or w/e the hell it's called. RTS all the way, and TBS ONLY if it's a last resort. Also play on XP side: Sins, Rise of Legends, W3 and starting to try LOTR-BFME2 n ROTWK - again, for mods! IF YOU'RE A MAC GAMER AND NEED HELP WITH INSTALLING MODS OR ANY TECH ISSUE WITH CNC ZH FOR MAC, PM AND I'LL DO WHAT I CAN. Top 5 ZH Mods: 1. Contra 005 (best AI EVAH, just wish they'd fix the bugs FINALLY), 2. Shockwave, 3. Retarded, 4. ProGen, 5. Project Raptor -- Haven't tried: AllStars, Light of Five Stars.

i never saw this, but 2 years later...and it's pretty funny how far the high and mighty can fall - PC games are dying, consoles are looking over their shoulder at the iPhone and iPad, and the App store has given out 5bn or something to developers since it started?

Eww, windoze phone! haha!

Oh and before anyone sez, 'you can just do this with Disk Utility!!! n00b!!', no you can't, to the best of my knowledge (and believe me i tried).

What you need is for the ZH install to 'see' the disc after the disk image has mounted; Toast does that thru it's mounting - DU doesn't. It just flat out doesn't. If there's another freeware program out there that did what Toast does, then LMK! Or if there's a way to GET DU to present the mounted image as a disc, then also LMK!

Sorry all, been IRLlin' it too much...So ROTR 1.7 still has same AI crossover issue I'm guessing- damn shame, too because it's a hell of a nice looking mod and the Navy is top notch (at least until Tidal Wars comes out- some heavydude-y code warriors in that group!)

Don't do much Hamachi, but maybe one o' these days- been playin' Remix, but kinda over it (the heart, man, she can't take all that craziness in teh first 10 minutes!). Gonna try out NPM's mod for awhile - always wanted to, just never found the time.

TIRED OF USING YOUR DISC? Or did your optical drive die (again again and again- thanks Apple)? Here's how you play ZH without the disc:
0) Purchase Toast; make sure you install with 'Mount It' option.
1) Open Disc Utility
2) Go to New>Disk image from Folder
3) Make Image from your ZH folder (vanilla install!)
3a) Make sure you name it Zero Hour, and options should be set for Read Only & DVD/CD Master.
4) Make Disc Image - save on your desktop
5) Now, start Toast, then select Disk Image, select your ZH image, click Mount - the 'disc' of ZH should appear on your desktop.
6) Click play on your ZH shortcut (or app in your App folder- w/e)

Note: this is NOT CRACKING THE GAME; you must have a purchased (or an archived/disk image) of the game itself in order to do this. But thanks to the miracle that has always been OS X (for now), who needs the damn disk??? (esp, when your Apple warranty replaced optical drive was manufacturing DOA that apple kept replacing in your Mac FOR DIFFERENT THREE TIMES).

Download, unzip, move the big files into your Zero Hour Data folder, play. Note, you have to play the ROTR maps or the game will crash (in os x anyway, but i haven't troubleshooted yet) For my part, the AI is weak, almost non-existent, so only head to head play is worth the mod (awesome work on the Navy and the maps though). If you still have issues/?'s pm me.

It's a pretty mod, but as a Mac player, something isn't working quite right in the crossover for me- the AI is not working right, in that the attack is super mild on Hard. Doesn't build. China, too- haven't tried USA or Russia yet. Even reinstalled from vanilla, updated etc just to be sure. Dang jealous of PC players in Skirmish. Navy is awesome though!!

No, no no NOOOOOOO - do NOT change the AI's, PLEASE!!!!! Passive is meant for you to learn the ways of each General, NOT to learn how to beat Agg/Insane AI's! Sheesh! The ONLY way to beat the two is to PLAY and LEARN. C'mon, people!! Help me out here!

Yes, it 's fast (you should try it on a 27" dual-core i7 iMac, w/4gb of RAM - talk about FAAAAAAAST), and yes, AF Gen is impossible to beat (show me vids or GTFO), but NO, it's not challenging if you hamstring the AI's! Add to this awesome AI the unpredictable nature of Maps+AI, and yes, it can make for some frustrating battles.

And yes, it slows down my MBP Core Duo (2003) like a mofo, to the point that playing it is painful sometimes (esp. on Robot Drone Gen).

But do we play this JUST to compstomp? And if so, then why play this mod? Remix is no compstomp mod - it's a STRATEGY mod; each Gen has something on all the Gens (the way ZH was supposed to be, as opposed to the US pwning everyone) - Shockwave, Reds, TEOD, Raptor, Contra, and my personal all-time fave Retarded, are compstomp mods bottom-line. Sure, every now and then you get a battle worthy of your time, but most of the time you're making the AI your bitch. Untitled is a bitch but doesn't count, but that's because it's more of a Reality mod, than Strategy mod.

Remix is the top-down, all bonus points, #1 AI strategy mod for CnC - I've played CnC 3, CnC3:Red Alert, CnC4; each AI is laughable when compared to Remix's - NONE of them do what I've seen this AI do, it's spooky as hell how it times it's attacks, and where. Yes, it spams - DUH. Armies throw everything at you, ummm...you're trying to win?

So, put a skirt on and swish around for me, or shut up and learn how to play. Sorry.

you must be playing a different game - not only does the AI work, it's brutal on hardest setting. This and N-Projects' (and poss. Evans) are some of the finest mod work being done on CnC.

If you've had issues getting it to work, try asking QUESTIONS nicely, and you'll likely get some help; I don't know, maybe you just like complaining and I should mind my own business. I like to complain about complainers, m'self...and now i've wasted 1 minute of *my* life - great.

So, about a month and a half later, mod still loaded, still enjoying the overall aweomeness of this mod, and in my humble opinion it's neck and neck for MOTY between this and N Project. But they are light years ahead of the pack.

No other mods this year (for CnC G:ZH) have shown the creativity, the stability, [and to top it off] the professionalism and response from the creators to even make it a competition! It's gonna be hard to pick just one...

Thanks again, soldier! And here's hoping you'll NEVER have to go on a 'wild goose chase' again!! And that any future wars you fight in are INI based!!!!

High hopes for this!! Been wonking out on Remix, and that AI is superb - stable as hell, too. And super-hard to beat more than 2 opponents on hardest setting. REALLY intrigued to see if you got *all* the bugs out (except the hardcoded ones) - you are one tenacious dude to hack away! mind like a machete, eh? 2.6.1 was excellent, so...

Awesome - great update, thanks! This is one ROCKSOLID mod, hombre - could maybe use it to plug that leak in the Gulf!

That microwave tank, with the additions? - BADASS. I don't think I've *ever* seen anyone do that! Esp. to the 'wave tank!

Only suggestion (& it's a small one) would be, the AI generally will not build again after it's been hammered once or twice - IDK if this is in the coding or not, but it would be nice to have the Contra 005 (not 006/007) AI and this mod together - talk about sweatin' it out...the AI does battle like a mofo at first, but hit 'em a few times, and they pretty much almost never rebuild defenses (which they don't build much anyway), and the game pretty much winds down rapidly after that. It's smart, but the paths the AI uses...well, it just seems like the Contra AI used almost every path it could to get to you, and in particular, would almost always come in your backdoor (if you left one open, which after the first time you get slaughtered, you never do again!) - yeh, i know, 'then play Contra!', but the crashing, man, the CRASHING...

Either way, incredible job - plays like CnC:ZH never did before! Love it, just wish it was a bit harder.

smacky! - - 58 comments @ Contra 007 Fixed AI (007 ONLY)

nope - totally do NOT agree - of all the 'overdone' mods, this is the best by far in terms of the AI being difficult enough to outweigh the mod balance itself; makes for awesome online compstomps that go on for at least an hour, if not more! 007 is not nearly as hard as 005 (still the best of the releases, in terms of the mod and the stable AI), so making it less powerful makes no sense! Just my opinion and exeriences, playing this mod - i know it may seem *too* powerful, but either you need to challenge yourself to accept that Strategy is more than spamming units, or play another mod like Beng's LDN, where no matter how many opponents you face, the AI will never be able to overcome the special mod powers. Frankly, Untitled and N=Project are the two toughest stable AI mods, they just don't have all these crazy powers...

B - take the chance you'll follow thru; i know C seems the most attractive option, and likely the one everyone wants, but- really? One faction? Doesn't seem worth the DL to me, and nothing good comes easy (or quick, for that matter) - esp. mods.

Here's one vote for you guys continuing - seemed like an epic idea and mod/storyline, so it'd be a shame to see it die - at the very least if y'all capitulate eventually, give the completed faction to another mod, say Rise of the Reds, or The End of Days (where the UAN would make some sense), as opposed to letting all your hard work to go for naught.

Of ALL the ZH mods i'm watching, this one I actually think will come to fruition, and will be well worth it - with np on board, i expect a lot of original bugs will disappear, and the gameplay will be TIGHT - take your time, gents, make an EPIC mod, and you will be rewarded with MOTY next year, and we will be rewarded for our patience (those willing to wait, anyway - impatient punks: go play something else, and let the adults get to it without you yammering on about betas or release dates! sheesh!!)

Looks epically cinematic in that video; by far looks to be one of the more 'complete' ZH mods in development. Been watching since inception, and next to Project Evans, this is my most salivated-after mod for ZH. One very meek and minor request would be that you include an Advanced AI for more 'experienced' players, maybe?

The AI's you find in many mods are too easily beat IMO (even at three or four opponents), even Contra (007 - 005 was pretty close to being all-out whack). Please take all the time you need, as everyone (except the impatient, obv) can see time has been the most critical team member so far!

ok, to install mac version:

1. Must have CLEAN install, updated to 1.04 - no other mods installed.
2. You can just use installer or use PACIFIST (shareware) to open DMG and extract contents.
3. When moving *any* PC ZH mod files into your mac ZH app, move the items in folders from the extracted DMG (or zip or exe) into your ZH app, OR just copy folders into your ZH app - sometimes, you need to replace ONLY the items in the extracted folder to the ZH app folder, and sometimes you need to just replace the folder; it depends on the mod (usually just replace folders - some mods require the original files to play, too, so if you just replace folders without LOOKING in the extracted mod folder to see what's what, you will 'break' your zh app and have to do a clean install and try all over again - i know, because i've done this many times).

Almost ALL ZH PC mods will play on the Mac - exceptions are this one (AI doesn't play properly, but is good for multi), and any mod that requires the exe installer to connect online to patch app files (like Vietnam Glory Obscured, I think, as you need to have ZH PC *installed* to patch/mod on PC side).

With Intel macs, if you have bootcamp or parallels or fusion installed, you can download *almost* any ZH mod, run the .exe installer, and save files to a 'dummy' or fake ZH location, grab the files, and then move/replace them into your mac ZH app.

The only drawback is not being able to run vanilla ZH or switch mods (to do either of these requires a clean install or removal of mod files/replacement of original files). What i usually do is color label new mod files BEFORE i move/replace them into the ZH app, then, whenever i want to switch/run vanilla, it's a fairly simple task.

All relevant ZH files are easily accessed, in your ZH Data folder (not the ZH Data/Data folder, although you usually have to place stuff in there, too). Hope this helps any fellow Mac ZH players out there, and if you need anymore help/tips, just LMK!

Wow! You got a wave? Usually, even with 3 on hard i only get 1 who attacks, and even then, it sort of just sends a stream of a few units.

I scanned the skirmish script, but it requires more than a scan i'm afraid. But even the original wasn't all that hard of an ai, frankly.

looking at the swr forum, they don't seem to mention any weak AI, so maybe there's something up with the xml translations or something (they aren't using INI files anymore is my guess). it's a shame, as it's a great mod, it's just missing that one element - but it'll be good for multi anyway. and thanks again for all your hard work!
