Open sounds in an editor and set new volumes to your liking. I had to do the same for this mod and all is well!
BTW the sounds are .ogg vorbis (mono)

O.G.S.E (Now OGSR) mod had that iirc. Quite a shock to the wallet to stock up on food only to have it no good after 3 days.
