This bad boi is shaping up to be the best Middle Earth mod in the ME2TW 'hood. Insanely good model quality, kickass environments and an excellent concept for a campaign/"theater of war" in the rarely utilized early Third Age period. Keep up the good work!

Great to hear that you guys will be able to create non-Japanese custom settlements/buildings for siege battles. I've heard long ago (for another mod) that custom buildings and especially "siege components" like walls/gates were hard/impossible to make in Shogun 2. A breakthrough in that department would be great indeed... War of the Last Alliance is my fav period for a theater of war for a "Total War: Middle Earth" game but I was hesitant to try this otherwise excellent looking mod because of the settlement issue (although some of the Easterling cultures could still use the Japanese settlements without too much of a jarring / out-of-place feel).

1. Do I need to uninstall the previous version first or can I just install over it? (I currently have v0.9.0 installed - the first v9 release)

2. Can I continue playing with my WBC3 campaign with no serious issues or should I start a new campaign after installing this update?

Thanks, it worked! To those having the same problem: I've set compatibility to WinXP Service Pack 3 and ran the program as an administrator.

The game freezes and crashes to desktop as soon as any unit starts "engaging" with each other (dealing damage? Ranged attacks trigger this as well). It's really weird/funky because everything else seems to work fine. This occurs on an old Windows 7 laptop on a fresh install (no previous versions of TPC installed).

I should try it with both the integrated Intel GPU (happened when this one was active) and the main Nvidia GPU but it doesn't seem to be a GPU related issue.

Excited for the big overhaul and the new features; especially the WBC2 Campaign mode! Thank you for all your work keeping this wonderful game fresh and alive.

When I click on SPELLS, the game crashes while displaying this Error message:

SCRIPT ERROR
?Variable doesn't exist: SCLOUDGIANT in CCost at character 980 Code :sus)
%OR(SP=SGreatWyrm)
%OR(SP=SCloudGiant)
%OR(SP=SKraken)
%OR(

I will now try the main mod to see if the error is there as well but I prefer this version because of the faster end turn times (I'm also on holiday with just an old laptop that doesn't have an SSD or a decent CPU so anything that speeds up end turn times is a bliss)

Edit: The main mod doesn't have this issue; only the Lite version...

Excellent design and graphic work, props! Fits very well with the ugly yet efficient/clever utilitarian craftsmanship of goblinkind too:

“Now goblins are cruel, wicked, and bad-hearted. They make no beautiful things, but they make many clever ones. They can tunnel and mine as well as any but the most skilled dwarves, when they take the trouble, though they are usually untidy and dirty. Hammers, axes, swords, daggers, pickaxes, tongs, and also instruments of torture, they make very well, or get other people to make to their design, prisoners and slaves that have to work till they die for want of air and light.”

P.S.
Lothlórien *really* needs some love as well; especially the golden-armored "Lórinand" elite line which frankly looks worse than the Galadhrim line of vanilla TATW/DaC. The green/grey-garbed early tier units look fine but the elites of Lothlórien are just not up to par with the rest of the mod's extremely high quality - a lot of their units lack the bowstring drawing animation too. They have a very interesting campaign with their far-flung Edhellond holding but the disparity of their unit visuals always bugged me. (apologies if they've already been updated, I may be remembering an earlier version but I also didn't see an updated unit in the gallery)

Obscuronaut - - 27 comments @ Disciples 2: Rise of the Mod

I like most of the changes (except maybe the Werewolf change apparently also disliked by others here as well probably because it was such an iconic unit for the Hordes and the Lycanthrope feels wonky/over the top with the "summoning Werewolves" thing, might also want to bring back the Fiend in some shape or form too as that was one badass model with a badass attack animation :P). I have to say those fluff tidbits about the choice of unit branch buildings are so absolutely comfy to look at - I especially enjoyed reading the ones for the Elven Alliance making excellent use of the whole Wild/Noble societal divide.

The only real problem I think is that a lot of custom scenarios just crash in the loading screen with that Imp with the hourglass (there are many including the ones bundled with the mod but off the top of my head: you can check out "Doragon's Realm" for problems/testing) Replacing them with the ones from the mod's folder does not work. Something you've changed probably causes crashes when loading a map including whatever that is...

Campaigns seem to work fine but I haven't played through them so I can't say if they're all OK. Someone in the comments below reported crashing after the ending of chapter 2 Saga of the Elven Alliance.

Edit: I have to mention that the Elven Archer line redesign is absolutely ingenious / well-thought-out, I love it!

Looks much better and closer to Tolkien's descriptions than the previous subpar/low quality renditions of those goofy/overdone abominations from the movie trilogy. Those riders look great as well, props!

Unfortunately it's not included. This was one of the first things I've checked because it's also among my favorite maps. "Colossal Caverns" (also great) made by the same legendary mapmaker Charles Watkins is included in the list of H3SW maps though!

I'm so insanely hyped for this release, it's unreal! I really hope we won't have to wait *too long* before getting our hands on this beauty (can't wait!). I think I'm gonna be diving straight into the WBC2 style campaign - boy did I love that one at the time!

Thanks for all your work keeping this gem of a game "alive" (polished? shiny?)

Ah so it p. much works the same as with editing creature stats in HoMM4 using similar/same tools. Thanks!

Nice design and I know how they've sort of envisioned the Vori Elves by making Gelu snow white-skinned (he *is* a half-breed mutt however :p) but I wish you've made them blue-skinned like the elves from the older Might & Magic games. Kastore from HoMM2 is a good example for that look. I think those are supposed to be the original space-faring elves of the M&M universe (part of the federation of "Ancients" also including the WH40K squat-like Dwarven abhumans and some other races including Humans) who were most strongly represented by the "pure" Snow Elves of Vori after settling on Enroth (the Wood Elves of AvLee later branched off and evolved/mutated into something more human-like).

Is there a (not too difficult) way of editing the stats of creatures? I'd love to make some minor tweaks to my liking especially for some of the H3SW additions like making the Satyrs a bit faster & glass-cannon by increasing speed/attack and decreasing def/hp. I know there are some existing tools (only used the ones for HoMM 2 and 4) but would they work on the mod?
Thanks for all your work btw, I'm having a blast!

That +1 move certainly makes Discipline worthwhile as a combat-only spell that is especially useful for elite ranged units you need to kite and shoot with. Still a bit sad about sacrificing it as an overland buff to the god of end turn wait times but this is a decent compromise.

IIRC the current version still has the M&M VI style Kreegan Devil as a neutral creature and that is an excellent adaptation of a classic IMHO. They could derive a few more creatures using the same chassis like "Gogs" simply having a similar M&M VI devil look wielding flames, winged and non-winged versions etc. The rest could be original designs or adaptations of HoM&M III Inferno creatures in the style of HoM&M II.

When/if they finally release the Heretic/Kreegan faction, I can finally start working on creating the perfect version of the "Mandate of Heaven" map from original HoMM3 based on M&M6;! :)

Obscuronaut - - 27 comments @ Warlord Lite Version 1.0.1

Yeah, bought/installed from Steam. I installed it again with the 1.02 file and it worked. I think I extracted Launcher and Multi files into the main MoM folder instead of into WL Lite and that's why it happened.

BTW I tried to improve the description text of some of the races for my own enjoyment along with some other stuff like changing certain hero portraits. I can share some of those if you'd like...

As some examples (I took the "fluff" parts of the text from the MoM wiki/fandom page which I really enjoyed reading and trimmed them to fit the screen - no idea where those guys got them from); I think this reads better than:

DARK ELF
At some point in elven history, a gifted faction penetrated Myrror and began colonization, then either fell under the world's corrupting influence or embraced it willingly. The Dark Elven version of the elven ethos of personal excellence places the monomaniacal pursuit of greater magical power above all else.

(also mentioned that they get Scouting now under the main part of the text)

-than this:

DARK ELF
Dark Elves were the result of manipulation by a powerful wizard on Elven population in ancient past. Dark Elves are not only generally powerful magically as result of aged old manipulation, but also as haughty as their Arcanian counterpart.

Also this:

HIGH ELF
High Elves are an ancient race of tall, blonde and long-lived humanoids. A hint of magic surrounds them at all times, guiding their weapons and making them more in-tune with the natural world. Lovers of nature to the point that their cities can barely be told apart from a forest, High Elves align themselves with conservationism over reckless progress.

-instead of this:

HIGH ELF
High Elves are races of long-life forest dwelling people who excel in both archery and magic. High Elves claim to be the first civilized race on Arcanus and tend to look down on races which haven't reached their level of magical advancement.

(at least "long-life" should be "long-lived" here)

Since you've changed the race of some of the Heroes, you should also change their portraits in accordance with their new race. The Ranger and the Druid which have the portraits of two bearded dudes really look jarring now that they've become "High Elven". I changed their portraits to Ivor and Aeris from HoMM 3 (tried the Elven Ranger portrait from Warcraft 2 at first because I think WC2 unit portraits had a very similar pixel art style to MoM but the end result wasn't very satisfying - the Paladin from WC2 was an excellent replacement for the new Inquisitor hero though!)

I'm also a bit miffed now that I've found out that you've made the Discipline spell combat-only, did it really slow down the game too much? That was a really cool CoM addition!

The Launcher shortcut/link is bugged: selecting Warlord Lite sends you to the "buy" page on Slitherine's website instead of launching the game.

I would humbly suggest the removal of fire arrows either from every unit or restricted to only a few appropriate units. They're unrealistic, visually look terrible and the AI is unable to use them well. BTW is there a submod out there which includes an edited descr_projectile file which removes fire arrows from this mod?

Hey there, congrats for the open beta release! I was wondering, does this include a HoMM II-ified version of the "Mandate of Heaven" map from vanilla HoMM III?

Mightandmagic.wikia.com

It would be so cool with all the M&M VI-compatible creatures, towns etc. The only problem could be the lack of the Inferno town to represent the Kreegans but some HoMM II: TSW screenshots from way back did include a Kreegan Devil model IIRC which was straight out of M&M VI in terms of design. Is it still included in the game as a Neutral creature?

Hey there EBII team, long time fan here, does the new installer work fine, have you sorted out those Steam problems? Are you going to be releasing this beast today? I can't properly describe my ANGER and HATRED towards Steam right now using decent English, it pretty much just comes out as animal noises mixed with a high dosage of profanity.
