hello there, amazing mod,
one thing however, the royal guard rohan unit, the horse is completely golden, like no texture just gold. Do i need to reinstall?
I've got a Castellan's visual overhaul mod installed so perhaps that's why? Thanks.

Just publish it as a submod if it's relevant to this mod?

Sara_Temer
"Factions which were strong in lore will be strong in mod"
I mean again like I described at the bottom of my post, during the period the prologue is set within Sauron is defeated and has no major control over Mordor, he is a servant of the Numenor king, akin to Wormtongue. If you want to stick to lore so much then you should care, the orcs *don't* follow him, I'm not making that up haha. The only "strong" factions during this period are the Elves and Numenor, that's it.

There's no need to be aggressive, calling constructive feedback/ideas stupid is a bad look, especially when other people agree with that feedback. I don't exactly know what you mean saying the civil war never happened, here is a lore article describing that it did. It wasn't "Close", it actually did happen. (http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/N%C3%BAmenor#War_with_Sauron)

I don't know why you're taking digs at other mods too, DaC has huge factions, and if you find the game too hard then you can just lower the difficulty? The player faction isn't "always ****" but on the hardest difficulty it is certainly a challenge.
DCI, again, huge factions based upon the end of the age where Gondor and Arnor were fully formed. You literally play as both Kingdoms combined lmao. I haven't played as Lindon but I doubt that they're "literally ****". Same too with the recent Warhammer games, there are big factions in those too, not every faction starts with just one settlement.

It saddens me that the lead developer would be so apathetic to the people they're hoping will play their mod, we aren't being "idiotic", we're praising a game design that you appear to have stumbled into by accident, and you don't seem to recognise as important or even good, which is a real shame.

Ah well, lmao then, I guess I'll just treasure this version of the mod haha

You call having weakened factions boring like every other mod does this, and they don't. Every mod has giant and complete factions, i would argue the way the game currently is is perfect, you don't need some civil war script to break apart numenor, just moving the start date to match the beginning of the conflict would seem less complicated and time consuming.
The current build of the mod would be flawless if you balanced Lindon more, perhaps increasing unit upkeep to compensate for their massive 20+ region size.
I just don't know, you have the oppertunity to do really interesting and unique things within this engine and the work you've already done, but you seem convinced to follow what other mods and modders have already done?
Of course, I'm a nobody on the internet, but this version of the mod is already one of the most unique Lord of the Rings mods available, for the many reasons I've put forward, whether intentionally or not, so I just don't understand why you'd throw that away?
Look at "pureevil29"'s comment on the Haradrim for example, that's another really cool aspect to the mod, but you don't seem to see that?

Anyway, hopefully you take some of this into consideration, there's a lot of potential here, and no reason to settle for "the beaten path" considering how you've developed so far.

Good job, and Good luck.

(Edit: From Quora.com, this quote about Sauron,

"After Sauron was captured and caused the Downfall of NĂºmenor (The period the mod is set in currently), his spirit returned to Mordor and he began to take shape once again"
As you can see, from a lore perspective, Sauron had to once again gather his strength, as the orcs had abandoned him because of his first major defeat and surrender in the Second Age, before The Last Alliance. Sauron only goes back to Mordor once Numenor is sunk, in which his body dies, which happens a while after the civil war begins. So, there is definitely room for independent orc factions/tribes within Mordor in this time period, and it actually makes *more* sense)

Another idea, perhaps instead of spending loads of time modelling and animating for naval combat, you could just hire an artist or something to draw up ships to put as the thumbnails for vanilla ships, navy is a big part of the gameplay for the bigger factions so it would add just that little bit more to immersion.
You don't even really need to mess around with statistics either, just do some renaming based off of ships in the lore :))

Edit and cut for brevity:
After playing for a few hours I am utterly convinced that this mod imho should focus entirely on what is currently the prologue. There's already at last one last alliance mod that focuses on the end of the age (sauron full force fighting gondor and elves), but what this mod does, using the clan system to facilitate a "colonies" and fractured men dynamic is absolutely amazing, I never thought I needed this kind of gameplay or period from a lord of the rings mod, but I did. You could still have orc factions, many, in fact, as there are various orc clans within Mordor and other places anyway (this would be very cool indeed) so there's no explicit need for "Sauron".

Idk, just some ideas I guess, and also, please please please make most/all "minor" factions playable.

Good work!

leodadrake1588277031 - - 25 comments @ Dagor Silmarillion ~ First Age Campaigns

This mod looks so so so good and I want to play it so badly but every single battle I start just crashes with a "Medieval 2 encountered an unspecified error" error message. I have the game patched to 4gb ram usage, and my pc is more than able to run it. What is the most stable way to play this mod in the First Age, Thanks!

Edit 4: Yeah so basically you can't fight against any monsters in the battle map because the game will just crash. The campaign map is absolutely amazing and it's a crying shame that the mod has such glaring issues still three years after general release. The mod author really has slept on an amazing project and they should really think about finding someone to pass their work to, or completing it themselves. More people play Medieval 2 mods than you think.
Looking at the Mod Author's past comments, he mentions apathetically that the mod runs on his pc in Windows 7, so I'm going to run the mod with Windows 7 Compatibility and see if this works.

I attempted a rather weird fix by adding this line of code to the main TATW bat,

set __COMPAT_LAYER=WIN7RTM
I don't know code, but I tried to force the exe to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode through the bat. I was almost jumping for joy, after successfully running one custom battle of a Balrog versus a bunch of dragons, but playing another custom battle with loads of spiders and wolves/bats caused the game to crash once again...

I even did this the other way around, creating a copy of the Kingdoms.exe, renaming it and copying that name to the bat file you run to play the mod in win 7 through the exe properly and I'm still getting creature crashes.

I've spent hours on this, there NEEDS to be a comprehensive Windows 10 install guide, and if the mod is now unplayable in certain conditions that needs to be made apparent.

The mod for the most part is very clearly focused on the Western Front, Yes, a lot of civilians died during WW1 in all countries, but you've even said it yourself, they were in the war for just over a year. I'm not trying to understate Serbia's specific participation in the war, rather, their impact on the conflict as a whole was negligible when compared to the fighting going on in places like Flanders and Tannenburg. I'm sure further down the road there will be more updates which eventually give Serbia a slightly better hand to play with, but the fact of the matter is that you shouldn't expect to have it easy playing as a minor nation such as Serbia.

I mean, you're asking why, as one of the smallest countries in 20th century Europe, you were finding it hard to fight against effectively two empires.

Also, historically, the Central powers were of an equal if not greater (in some regards) military power to the Entente, but playing as Serbia will probably give you a skewed perspective on a war that historically that country barely took part in.

You should only need to download the Installer, Which is file 5.1, and the most recent patch, which is 5.1.5.

Just download the most recent "Full Version" file (A description you can find slightly underneath the name of the files) which in this case is 5.1, and then download the most recent patch file. The files come with an installer and the mod itself has a launcher for ease of use.

Vanilla Napoleon will work, though it goes without saying that steam installs are always the best option for modding. The mod comes with a launcher which lets you patch and unpatch the game with The Great War Mod (Slightly misleadingly titled in the launcher as "Install Mod" and "Uninstall Mod" in the alternate launch settings drop down menu). There's no real reason to uninstall the mod to still play vanilla, unless you want space, of course. :)

The soviet union are in v6, I can't support Ferdinand's comment about nation specific rifles being "fixed", but the soviets are definitely fully integrated into v6.

You can play them in v5 by starting a revolution in Russia with taxes, but aside from flags the country isn't very fleshed out yet

Ah, sorry for coming across as an absolute brainlet, I knew about the differences in the machine guns and I thought the 2 turrets thing was a cheeky freudian slip, so I was just making a joke about it haha

I can see how the bunkers are more hassle than they're worth, considering too that they were much more of a WW2 thing as well, there simply wasn't enough time to build such fortifications on the majority of the Western Front.

I can sense a bit of disdain but I'm not out here trying to tell you how to make your mod haha, I'm just super interested in this time period and while I'm not looking for an entirely historically accurate mod I just thought it might be helpful to mention some alternatives to variations in units that aren't "nAvAL wArFAre", (Because between you and me, I have no idea why everybody wants Battleships so badly, just make every ship an Ironclad or something?) like with artillery, seeing as that was one of the most used weapon types of the war. Idk, maybe in the future there could be an all encompassing "Steel Rain" version which adds a few of these more nuanced manned guns, but until then, I patiently await version 6, along with it's glorious looking soviet army, might I add :)
