So did I, because Warner Bros. has really gone off the deep end, " Hey, I got an ideas, let's close down mods from now on cuz we are greedy." That's a rough draft of what they probably said.

I must admit, Tolkien would be disgusted to see much of his world, which he spent creating during the darkest moments of human history, be regarded by corporate snakes as a mere product. Its sickening.

I hope you win MERP team, for the sake of Tolkien and the clear thinking community :P

I really like the project but sometime petitions in situation like this can be a shot in your own knee. If a lot of people are interested in something, a licence-owner thinks that he really could loose money by underestimating the project and advance against it even harder.

On the other hand, they will ignore small projects in which is "noone really interested in".

I don't think that's the case here as they have already made the move. This is just the reaction and its the best course of action. If the word gets out and is spread, I believe most people will support the Mod; including people who have never heard of MERP, who share the sentiment that warner bros is wrong. Get the wider modding community involved and you've already got a big support base.
warner bros is all about money, so when they see the weigh up between a non existant threat from merp that they just imagined and the real threat of people's anger then a wise organisation would change their mind fast. Only worry is does warner bros have anyone with enough brain cells.
Either way let's give them hell.

I share your concerns. First thing WB will do if this goes to court is say "look at all these people that would have bought our game, if we were to make one." And seeing the power that copyright protection legislation has in the States, I'm not in any way optimistic about the success of this fight. The best thing to have done right away was de-escalate, see what "middle ground" is available while gaining support from the community, finding others that have faught, lost and learned, maybe even lobby Bethesda and other WB competitors.
Then you pop WB a new *******.
As since you've decided to go full on fight, signed.

We couldn't de-escalate much as we weren't TRYING to escalate in the first place :P . The spread of MERP's name has largely been through third parties we have no control over. We have talked to people who have fought and won too, so we aren't fighting blind.

I hate it when companies do this. They can't produce anything worh buying so they are scared of anyone who can. It is really quite pathetic when a big company like WB can't compete with a small non-profit modding team and so thy attempt to shut them down.

I signed the petition and emailed it to other skyrim players that I know. Good luck, I hope you are able to continue devlopment, the mod is truly incredible.
