Tons of changes have just been deployed plus we've just hit 400,000 registered members!

Posted by INtense! on Jun 3rd, 2010

As I'm sure most of you know, we are extremely hard at work putting the finishing touches on Desura (our game / mod digital distribution solution). But that doesn't mean ModDB misses out on the update love it deserves. If you noticed a few minutes of downtime today, this is why:

  • Email verification, so if you change your email - you will need to verify it works
  • Shopping cart + purchase history (though this change is for Desura, unless you donate using the job ad system)

  • Streamlined the registration process, so new accounts are made instantly. They are read-only however, until you confirm your email
  • Updated the "lightbox" solution to be nicer. Also means when clicking "view original" image in the gallery you see it FULL SIZE and not a minimized version
  • Site login is now done via HTTPS for added security

These changes are not that exciting, but we should have some very exciting announcements and changes late next week, so check back in for that. Oh and we just hit 400,000 registered members!

I'd like to think that the "very exciting announcement" next week is a Desura open beta date.

Afraid not, that is still about 4 ~ 6 weeks away if all goes to plan! Could be longer due to the sheer amount of work involved... but it is getting close now

Wow! 4-6 weeks, or a little longer is much closer than I thought it'd be for Desura's release.

400,000 registered members?

Why are there about 80,000 (80,090 ATM to be exact) ranks?

Very good question. I'm curious about this as well.

you've gotta be an active member to be ranked. so only 80,000 are active.

No security is impenetrable.

The tightest security is making backups, scanning/capturing data, plus your own eyes, intelligence - and above all - awareness. ;-]

400,000? ... Weird. I'm actually surprised, I thought there was at least a million. Dunno why, just imagined it was bigger, but glad that it's still growing.

Also, these are registered members.
400k registered members in total.
80k active ones.
And the guests not told about - BTW, how many guests do you get now? :-) 2kk a month?

INtense! Jun 3 2010, 2:09pm replied:

We get about 1.5 million visitors a month. So the vast majority of visitors are guests
