Launch all fighters!

Very well done, I like it

I was wondering if it might be possible to have lunch fighters as an ability ships have instead of a default thing that just happens when ships come out of Hyperspace?

I think it could allow for some more interesting and more tactical options during battles.

Possibly it could work in a similar way to how bunkers work on ground maps.

Didn't Vader's Executor have an ability like that? To launch fighters when needed?

Yes and this abiliy is utterly broken.

From comments in the source code it indicates that the ability should be able to launch all fighter at once, insted of this stupid one fighter at a time thing. Which with the Executor and her full wing of fighters is not useful at all.

Regarding bunker/transport behaviour:
It's one of the abilities only working during gound tactical combat. No use for space, sadly enough.

That's such a shame.

I've only said that the vanilla bunker/transport behaviour is not working in space.

Which is not quite a "No way to ever create something like that.", ... So, challenge accepted.

Though i am not the fan of the overall design of the Quasar,i have to admit this variant looks amazing. Well done guys.

The individual hangars make it look better though *wink*

quite good work but wouldnt it look a bit *silly* if a ship of this size is flying in 3d space like a fighter?

A Quasar isn't that big. And you can tweak the fighter movement quite a bit, so it's not insane, but reasonable.

yeah but think about the fighter pilots trying to launch out of it, think of the stress that will put them through.

We're in space. Fire up the engines and fly straight ahead.
It's not a portal, just a hangar.

I... I don't think that's how it works. I can't really give a good example except if you've played Space Engineers.

It's basic physics unless I'm wrong. If a fighter lifts off, the artificial gravity won't automatically move the fighter with it. The pilot will have to compensate with the ship's movement.

It's like if you throw an object while in a really fast vehicle, the object will move and fall opposite the direction of the vehicle instead of falling straight back down.

Nerd talk (All under a "If I'm not wrong and memory serves correctly"-disclosure, because my last physics lesson's been a while ago, any physician can jump in and deconstruct my assumption):

In classical mechanics a linear momentum is preserved for all objects within a closed system. The hangar bay of a ship is such a closed system, whether the gravity is artificial or not.
As long as the fighter is within the hangar and does not move (hovering does count as not moving as well) it actually seems as if the fighter would not move at all, even if the carrier within a larger system is in fact moving.

If the fighter starts moving within the hangar, the fighter moves relative to the carrier with a slow speed. Due to the architecture they usually use catapult like structures to give the fighter enough velocity to lift off. The concept is being used on real carrier ships, as well as in ScyFi (Battlestar Galactica is a prominent example, but Star Wars's ISDs as well.)

Now the fighter actually lifts off and leaves the force field with high speed relative to the carrier. As soon as the fighter does a transition to the larger system space the momentum of the carrier and the momentum of the fighter add up. In reality you would be doing a very close, parabolic movement due to friction and thus change your direction to the opposite. In space we lack any friction, thus the momentum of both fighter and carrier get preserved and add up into the fighter's final movement vector, with which we can calculate the new momentum.

Interesting, I'll have to ask our prof if I get a chance. I'm quite curious now.

Do that and share the answer. I'm really curious as well.
What I forgot to mention is that hangars in SW have atmosphere. The Galacttica's launch tubes have not.

But as I've already said. It's an assumption based on knowledge I've last used more than 6 years ago.

What do you mean by '3d space' regarding its fighter flight maneuvers?

The ship flies just like a fighter, but at a much slower speed

can you make the corvettes(like CR90s) do that?

Description

The mighty Thurse, a heavily modified battle version of the Quasar-Fire class carrier, featured an additional 7 medium turbolasers, 2 fast tracking AA turrets and 2 light laser turrets.

The Thurse was home to Kol Eyttyn, Wing Commander to Blue Squadron/X-wings

Due to being a battle variant of the Quasar with the armored hangar entrance, the Thurse is not able to passively repair nearby fighters.

Special ablities:

- deploy fighters
- power to shields
- launches Kol Eyttyn's Blue Xwing squadron along with 2 others and 1 squadron of TIE fighters
