As part of our efforts to create a realistic feeling galaxy, the StarHauler was created as a prop ship for placement at planets with large shipyards. The ship has no weapons, but does contain highly explosive industrial waste in its massive container cells, which if ignited, can create a massive fireball which will damage any ship or fighters which happen to be fly too close...

So, not the 'big' thing that I promised on the home page, for that is still being tweaked by our coding department, but still a nice surprise while we all wait.
This is by far the best model made so far by our team member Revan. Revan joined us last year, and has steadily improved with his modeling skills. I was really impressed when he showed this, for I think it looks amazing, and can't wait to blow the crap out of it once it is in the game :)

The fire ship idea is great. I originally thought the ship would just be eye candy. :)
And the point and purpose is?
adding some ambience into the game. Space Battles are rarely fough in deep space (as it is simply to vast to even ecounter your enenmy) but are fought over plantes, stations, asteroid belts which contain resources of all kinds. So if you fight a battle in a rather "urban" eviorment, like a dry dock in space, you will need small working vessels, else it's not going to look liek a real dry dock as there is something missing. The fact that the ship also has a gameplay impact (in exploding when shot) is a nice bonus in my eyes.
the model is nice, just don´t forget to poly-optimise it, since for a prop ship it is highpoly as f--k...

Yes for example the small pipes had 18 sides before now they have 8.
That sounds very acceptable. What's the overall poly count atm?
I believe it was at 25,000 triangles
The curves are a real pain, but still less than other big ships, and only 1-2 of these will be on a map at once. They will auto-spawn at capital shipyards, and be user-controlled
Space nuke? I am happy.
