So the MC85 is a large ship. The focus of the mod will primarily have the zoom levels centered on the medium ranged ships, such as the Nebulon B. We will have an extended camera zoom to view farther out, and zoom closer in, but the main level of viewing will be based around the light cruisers and frigates. Larger ships such as the MC85 and Star Destroyers will still be detailed, but the idea is to have them appear more as backdrops to the smaller ships which will be flying in front of them/above them.

We are working on this strategy level of detail. The cropped shots is probably closer than a player will normally zoom in on a ship this size in the game. SSD class sized ships will be on the bottom tier of play, larger battleships above them, the middle zone of combat which will be frigates and small ships, then above them some additional larger ships. This multi-tiered system of ship placement is something we are hoping can provide the best cinematic experience when playing the game.

This rationale is what is determining our level of detail for ship textures. While we do want all ships to look good, the medium-small class ships will receive the most intricate details, while the larger ships will receive just enough to look exciting as they lumber behind view of all the smaller ships.

There will be randomized ship height, but it will be limited to specified tiers. We have a 5 height tier system planned, with worldships on the bottom. Ships will spawn at varied heights, but limited to their assigned tiers. A frigate may be able to spawn at tiers 2-3 for example, but never on tier 5.

If you imagine a sphere, we want big ships mostly on the outside, small ships at the core.

Although, I would allow fighters to go bellow and above every ship. They have their icon to show their position, so why not?

I remember that, in Battlefront 2, the easiest way to avoid getting shot by auto-turrets and hit the life support systems was to go down bellow enemy ships.

Also, ISD's launch bay is actually supposed to be down on its belly, right?

that's not relevant for the weapon systems in empire at war. Fire cones are measured in width and height, which means turrets fire as far down as they can fire up, which makes them inherently look dumb at some point or another when the barrels point downwards, clipping through their mounts. Same with regular hardpoints, only on non-turreted ones it doens't look so strange as you can simpely put the firebone on a position where it makes sense for it to be able to shoot downwards. So that's why the battlefront mechanic doesn't work in eaw.

I know about the turret angle thing but are you telling me that even if you put a hardpoint bellow the ship, it is still targetable by the ships above?

Well yes. You never tried targeting the other side of an acclamator or a star destroyer in vanilla? That works 100%, sides don't matter, if the hardpoint is in range, it can be targetted and even if the projectile directly hits on a completely different side of the ship, directly onto where another hardpoint might be, it'll still damage the targeted ahrdpoint only. Ya, the game is really ****** in that respect, but good space RTS' are hard to come by, so modders use this one because it's relatively easy to mod, and mostly still fun to play ;)

Description

Slight texture update, while still very similar to the previous one, the MC85 has been revisited to smooth out some of the texture seems and give a a slight enhancement to the overall hull texture.

Just some daily eyecandy, new ship textures are in development and are on the way.
