So, the Dreadnaught was one of the toughest fighting ships of its time when built. Able to take a beating, and dish one out, relevant to its prime era. With Rendili being a premium warship developer, not known for making cheap ships, the Assault Frigate MK2 needed to continue with the mindset initially established by the Dreanaught.

Petroglyph made a very cool looking original model, but it looked far to fragile a ship to be the successor of the Dreadnaught. Evillejedi had the brilliant idea of stretching the model, making it look more 'star warsy', and that was a great idea on his part. I added to the modification by giving the ship smaller delicate detail only in protected areas, and texturing the hull in a manner to show a heavily armored shell, making the ship once again the armored battlewagon it was intially conceived to be.

So this version of the AFMK2, its heavily armed and armored for a ship of its size with its 4 captial grade heavy dual turbo turrets. It has quick speed and heavy armor, yet light shields. The weakness of the ship is its singular shield generator and unarmored engine. If the shield generator (located on very bottom of ship) is destroyed, then the AFMK2 becomes very susceptible to laser fire. If its main engines are knocked out, the AFMK2 has 2 secondary engines so that the ship never loses its maneuverability completely, but it is significantly slowed.

Just an explanation to explain how thought is given to balance, so no 1 ship is too overpowered.

The fields of fire on those turrets look really bad. It looks like the forward most dual heavy turbolaser turret is blocked from firing directly forward by the ships superstructure, and the smaller turbolaser turrets don't appear to have the ability to elevate far enough to fire directly at targets beside the ship.

That's how the ship is. Heavy firepower, meant mainly for broadsides.

all 3 forward heavy dual turbo lasers can fire straight ahead without shooting through the hull.

I take extreme care when planning out firing archs, and I have wariscool developing the code to prevent the turrets from turning into and firing through the ship, meaning we do have fire arch limitations place almost every turret on every ship.

So you completely reversed it from its original vanilla version. Instead of strong shields and weak hull, its been flipped, and it is also a capital ship now. I am also guessing this will be a very efficient broadsiding warship.

Yes, for the original concept of the AFMK2 just didn't make sense to me. It was a cool design, but the Dreadnaught was a heavily armored and rugged ship, which allowed it to be used for such a long time, it was just a tanker of a warship. So, if the AFMK2 was made from the Dreadnaught, it didn't make sense to me that they would forgo all the heavy armor and make the ship fragile and dependent upon shields.

This new design, makes the ship still a frigate, but with the fire power of a cruiser. The weak shields, and unarmored engine hardpoint are its main weaknesses, and its chief drawback to building the ship is that it is quite expensive when compared to other frigates.

The AFMK2 will have the special abilities of Power to Engines and Power to shields. It will also carry 2 squadrons of fighters.

Good to see someone can re-think all those misplaced vanilla concepts. I agree that Dreadnaught's re-engineered ship can not be completly different from its base ship. Now it makes sense.

Description

It will destroy you, and laugh while doing so.....

Reverse engineered from the sturdy heavily armored hulls of the Dreadnaught Cruiser, the Assault Frigate MK2 was made to the new frontline attack ship for the Rebel Alliance to replace the aging Mon Calamari converted cruisers. Designed by Rendilli, the vessel was made state of the art, featuring a heavily fortified armored shell that covered nearly all vital areas of the crew decks and hangars. The ship was lightly shielded, but heavily armored, relying on its fast speed and shield recharge rate for survivability and was heavily armed for ship to ship combat.

Weapon systems included 4 quad heavy AA turrets, 4 heavy dual Turbolaser turrets, 10 dual medium Turbolaser turrets 8 dual light laser turrets and 6 internally housed light ion cannons.

When the AFMK2 appeared on the battlefield, the enemy took immediate notice.
