XWVM is a mod to the original X-Wing game from Lucas Arts and Totally Games by Larry Holland and Edward Kilham. We are re-implementing the executable to extend the game beyond its original hardware support. The mod of course requires the player to own and have installation of the original X-Wing game, or have the GOG or Steam versions of X-Wing Special Edition (either the 1993 floppy, the 1994 CD, and/or 1998 Windows edition). The team of fans developing XWVM is not associated with Lucasfilm Ltd or Disney, and XWVM is not an official Star Wars product. XWVM isn't a standalone game, or total conversion, but a mod to the original. XWVM neither contains nor distributes any copyrighted material. All game resource files (missions, voice overs, SFX, iMUSE automaton, in-game graphics and 3D models, etc) are loaded from the player's copy of the original game, or are replacements originally created by our team, where the original resources are considered inadequate for today's standards.

XWAUP also announced VR Support recently. Is this coincidence or the same implementation?

XWAUP VR is a clever hack. This is native.

It's a bit complicated. We do cooperate with XWAUP, we share knowledge and we keep inspiring each other in regards to features.

VR is something we wanted to do quite early on but it's only now that we got it working aside from some bugs.

I think Blue_max started implementing VR and TrackIR one or two years ago, I can't remember right now.

So it's more or less a coincidence.

The VR-implementation of XWAUP and XWVM are quite different. But I'll let one of our programmers explain that one.
(EDIT: MajorParts just explained that one.)

This is absolutely amazing work. I can't stress that enough. I used to live an breath XW and TF, XWvTF, and Alliance back in the day.

I'm assuming the VR version will not replace the non-VR for us folks who've not jumped to VR yet? On that note, any support for TrackIR?

My 6 year old just brought me my my XW v TF original box that included part of the sticker that had been on the box stating that the master and multiplayer discs were misslabed (I bought it at Best Buy on release day). Man that brought back memories of skipping out early from a DiffEq class to be first in line.

My daughter had all sorts of questions about the game. I was tempted to buy it on steam even though I already have multiple versions of the various titles I bought over the years. I read in one of the comments that there were mods so I started looking and was amazed by all the new modding communities, especially this one. That said, would you recommend the Steam Version or GoG? he review I noted above said he had issues with mods, but that might be because he didn't disable verification of the game files and steam blew stuff away (I don't know). Then again maybe he was looking at one of the other mods.

I'm sure you get this all the time, but are accepting Alpha testers? I'd love to help out as time allows.

Hopefully soon between you guys and Darksaber's work on Tie Fighter I'll relive my teenage years (I was 16 when XW was released) and introduce my kids to the classic SW gaming experience. On that note, are there any plans to take your work here and apply it to TF or even Alliance? I gather from the comment above that you guys are working with that XWAUP group.

Cheers, and I can't say it enough, keep up the amazing work.

VR is a camera option, as is TrackIR.

GOG version is apparently the one to go with.

TF & XWA will be catered for eventually. I can't remember if XvT was going to be catered for.

"This footage of the alpha VR version of XWVM was captured with Nvidia Shadowplay, and the VR headset used was an HP Reverb running in native WMR."
