XWVM is a mod to the original Star Wars: X-Wing game from Lucas Arts and Totally Games by Larry Holland and Edward Kilham. Our goal is to rebuild the game engine with newer technologies that allow it to run and make use of the latest hardware and improvements in gaming hardware. The mod will require the player to own and have installation of the original Star Wars: X-Wing game, or have the GOG or Steam versions of X-Wing Special Edition (either the 1993 floppy, the 1994 CD, and/or 1998 Windows edition). XWVM neither contains nor distributes any copyrighted material. All game resource files (missions, voiceovers, SFX, iMUSE automaton, etc) are loaded from the player's copy of the original game, or are original creations of our team, where the original resources are considered inadequate for today's standards.

THANKYOU FOR ADDING THE TARGET RETICLE FROM THE MOVIE/X-WING GAME!!!!

Seriously, that's the one thing I miss in the later games, and I was worried you wouldn't put it in.

Love the aiming HUD. It's a terrific blend of the simplistic one from the original with the more detailed HUD elements from later games.

Great work guys, love it.

I have a question, is it possible to load and play missions created with the original 1993 editors that were around?

After reading up on your intentions, and the TIE fighter part(wich triggered me WAY more to play and replay then X-wing did), would your mod be capable of somehow turning any of these games into a online co-op game where you can play the missions with other pilots using some sort of local server/remote client solution?

To your first question, yes. This program uses the original mission files. So if you edited them with a mission editor, your changes will be there.

About the online capabilities, we cannot say yes or no. We aren't developing this with online play in mind, but if it can be adapted, we will.
Our multiplayer wishes are similar to what you describe: single player missions will allow friends to join in with their pilots and take control of one of the wingmen or allied fighters to help, and so the single player mission becomes co-op mission.

Description

Testing of the aiming mode for the targeting computer. This mode, reimagined from X-Wing, allows you to snipe really far static and moving targets if you manage to place the little ship in center of the targeting computer's reticule.
This video also features a new version of the iMuse music resynthesized by Laserschwert (listen to an arrangement of it at Soundcloud.com )
