XWVM is a mod to the original X-Wing game from Lucas Arts and Totally Games by Larry Holland and Edward Kilham. We are re-implementing the executable to extend the game beyond its original hardware support. The mod of course requires the player to own and have installation of the original X-Wing game, or have the GOG or Steam versions of X-Wing Special Edition (either the 1993 floppy, the 1994 CD, and/or 1998 Windows edition). The team of fans developing XWVM is not associated with Lucasfilm Ltd or Disney, and XWVM is not an official Star Wars product. XWVM isn't a standalone game, or total conversion, but a mod to the original. XWVM neither contains nor distributes any copyrighted material. All game resource files (missions, voice overs, SFX, iMUSE automaton, in-game graphics and 3D models, etc) are loaded from the player's copy of the original game, or are replacements originally created by our team, where the original resources are considered inadequate for today's standards.

Will these additions be voice acted in the final release? I *REALLY* like the idea of getting X-Wing into (mission design) parity with Tie-Fighter here.

That's the ultimate plan - the support is already there in XWVM for voiced lines (we already have several test missions that make use of these), but will take time to work through the planned additions for the 116 original missions.

Generally, these enhancements are in the form of the mission dialogue additions rather than gameplay changes, though we may include a small number of bug fixes to resolve specific issues in the original missions.

These enhancements will be released seperately from the core XWVM release, so will be completely optional for players to install and use.

Description

While work continues behind the scenes, we have a new video to share: a demonstration of how sidecars can optionally add dialogue to the original missions, as shown with this playthrough of TOD2M07.

This is based on a work-in-progress version of the sidecar for this mission, which currently includes only text for in-mission messages, however XWVM already fully supports voice files, which can be easily packaged alongside missions and/or sidecars.
