Description

One of my biggest annoyances in the original UI is the conflicting key mappings in the Container and Quantity menus. When managing a large stash, I’d find myself too eager to press “A” to move an entire stack at the Quantity menu. This can be disastrous because a double press will also activate “Take All” at the Container menu and can ruin several minutes of item management. Mapping those actions to different keys solves the problem. “R” is used for its similarity to Skyrim.

In VUI+ keyboard maps are separated from the main menu code. This allows for easy customization of button keys. You can find the relevant information at the mod’s Readme. An implementation of this feature is packaged into the installer under the name of WASD Compatible Keybinds. This will remap WASD keys away from the menu buttons providing conflict-free functionality of mods such as Keyboy or Stewie’s Tweaks WASD feature.

Even non-WASD players are encouraged to try this option, due to its streamlined key mapping of common functions. For example, “E” will retain the role of Enter & Close in various menus, whereas “X” will be used for Cancel. Of course the standard VUI+ keymaps will be used by default. WASD is totally opt-in.

The opening speed of the Quantity menu is also increased by zeroing its fade value. A small fade is nice in general, but annoying in frequent popups such as the Quantity menu. Its transparency has also been reduced to make it easier to distinguish on top of item lists. Aside from the standard highlighting feature, the Quantity bar will also produce sounds when it’s being hovered or clicked by the mouse pointer.
