Rip my dreams of having the Renegade Guard eventually becoming an independent faction with them primarily using daemon engines
You can still fuse the Renegade Guard mod with UA. It´s one of the most stable mods out there with UA at the moment (just don´t spawn a general or else it will crash).
I´m sadder I can´t see a Valhalla regiment to fuse with :(

This means they'll be reintroduced in the upcoming version, since they were removed in the previous one.
What will be?
The Renegades unit as seen above will be brought back to the CSM faction. They were intentionally removed from a previous buggy patch but it seems like Cylarne has changed his mind and is deciding to reintroduce them back into the mod.
I hope he does i like the idea of the above mentioned of them being their own race. UA team should do that that i believe eventually over time. Them and FOK i bet are the major thing keeping soulstorm alive and more popular the DOW 2 or DOW 3. Im personally hopeful for Death korp of krieg, elysian drop troop, or solar auxilla maybe even the adeptus custodes as their own armies.

It would be epic if the renegades could be outfitted with either autoguns or lasguns depending on which mark you have chosen. Autoguns for Khorne and Nurgle, Lasguns for Tzeentch and Slaanesh. Undivided, perhaps a mix of both? Just to differentiate the lasgun a bit from the loyalist version you could make it shoot green colored laser beams as depicted in the Space Marine video game.
