I'm an amateur modder and have been playing around with UA for quite some time now. I believe I've found a few ways to increase overall fun and usefulness of a few types of units and decrease the amount of things a player has to mentally keep track of.

First on my list is the ability for IG squads to spawn Commissars and later, priests and vox operators as squad leaders, as well as increasing the leader cap to 2. So you'd get a sergeant, and any of the other three. Mix it up however you like for maximum effectiveness. Considering how reliant the IG are on a Commissar being at the right place at the right time, this seems incredibly valuable.

Secondly, I've been experimenting with taking the abilities granted by the SoB Missionary and granting them to all Sisters of Battle squads. From what I've heard, this is how they function in table top anyway. Truth be told, the missionary REALLY does not feel like he belongs there, and is really an odd choice for the SoB scout unit. Not to mention it's just as much of an impractical pain in the ass to add one to every squad in the heat of battle as it was for the IG.

I've implemented both of these changes to my current home-made build of the game, and so far, it doesn't seem to make them overpowered. It just makes it easier to use abilities that these factions seem to be based on having. Like, IG have naturally weak morale, so it makes sense to give them access to a (hilarious) ability to fix that in certain situations.

That kind of changes the game completely though. DOW has ALWAYS been about the Micro. Trust me, as someone who is horrible at shortkeys I can sympathyze within reason. What I do think is that the infiltration switch is USELESS IMO.

Be as that may, the UI really doesn't reflect that kind of thing. As far as I know, there's no way to tell which squad has an attached leader, or what kind of leader is attached. There's no way to quickly do this, and, in the heat of combat, it's nearly impossible to bind priests and commissars to open squads.

You can tell by clicking the squad. Look below the reinforcement button somewhere near the bottom it has the leader and a detach button next to it. As for binding I find that doing move then bind helps coax the AI along.
