Roman Empire XVth Century Revamp
Tsardoms Total War proudly presents a preview for the revamped Roman roster for the XVth century. This roster was revamped by Banksie and includes unit upgrades for several existing units in the roster. The units will start off with their previous version and will need to be upgraded in order to reach this leve. Jurcek also created a brand new long spear unit too.
The revamp is not fully complete or final and there may still be more modifications to the units and more upgrades for the rest of the roster. These late era upgrades are generally more Westernised however they do include Oriental and Turkish elements too to reflect the changing nature of the late Roman armies.
New unit - Menaulatoi Long Spearmen
This unit is an attempt to bring the Roman roster a bit more in line with Western factions. There is a discussion whether it is historical or not. Romans did have pike units in the early medieval but they probably didn't have any in the later period. However, we had to make a compromise and add a long spear unit to the Romans to allow them to face Western pikes and heavy cavalry on a more equal footing.

I stopped playing Total War when I started Playing Pike and Shot, but looking at Field of Glory (basically same thing) they have something smart for How Pike works, its not really about the size of Spear... only, its also how you use them, so theres 2 units of Pikes Macedonians that historically was achived by enlogating the spear vs the classical Phalax of Hoplites, and the Swiss, which is my point here, there was very long spears at this time but they were not really used in a manner akin to those, aka, long spears in ranked formations.
Either way I know this doesn't really work here but was just wanting to say this, if Byzantine Empire somehow survived, they probably would have eventually gotten to pikes, and shot (not necessarly in this order) like the Russians did, but that would take time.
Can't wait!!!
