We are proud to announce the next version of Tsardoms Total War 1.4.
This version includes a large amount of changes including a new faction (Albania), map changes, new units, a tonne of historical events, scripted invasions (hussite wars, tatar invasions, polish invasions, lithuanian invasions etc), lots of new scripted characters spanwed (Sigismund of Luxembourg, Skanderbeg etc.) and much more.
We are proud to announce the next version of Tsardoms Total War. This version is not savegame compatible and will require a brand new mod installation.
Installation
- Download the mod
- Unpack the mod in the Mods folder of your Medieval 2 Total War folder using the installer. PLEASE ENSURE YOU UNPACK IN THE MODS FOLDER NOT THE MAIN MEDIEVAL 2 FOLDER

- Steam installation: follow the same instructions as above, than go into Steam right click on the Medieval 2 Kingdoms game, go to Properties, then go to Set Launch Options and replace what is there with the following --features.mod=mods/Tsardoms_beta-1.4
Basically for Steam the actual name of the Tsardoms folder and executable file must be there

Patch Notes
New Features and Changes:
- optional music pack - loads of period music to enjoy
- new faction - Princedom of Albania replacing the Script Utilities faction (previously used for scripting purposes)
- new characters added for Albania including Karl Topia and George Kastrioti (Skanderbeg)
- new units for Albania including Arvanite Heavy Lancers, Albanian Horse Archers, Albanian Nobles and Albanian Bodyguard
- new career system for characters of Genoa, Florence and Venice (from Kingdoms, Empires and Republics by Meloo)
- new ancillary titles added in Italy (eg. Marquis of Montferrat) and Balkans (eg. Count of Mat, Prince of Albania, Duke of Durazzo)
- Hussite wars and scripted Hussite invasions - Hungary, Austria and Bavaria will be invaded by large amounts of rebel stacks between 1419 and 1449
- Scripted invasions - Tatar raid of Hungary 1345, Polish invasion of Halych 1349, Lithuanian invasion of the Steppe (battle of Blue Waters) 1362
- John Hawkwood condottieri Yes/No event for Milan and Florence - pay 5000 florins to hire him or face his army in battle
- Serbian Coronation event mission of Dusan IV with rewards for achieving it
- coronation even for achieving the ancillary of Prince of Wallachia, Moldova and Transilvania now also gives some units and a special character (Preda Buzescu) as reward
- new spawned unique characters for Venice including known historical characters from the 4 main houses in order to keep all of the noble houses alive throughout the mod period, Sigismund of Luxembourg also spawns for Hungary and can become heir to the throne
- 2 new Armenian mercenary units in South-East Anatolia
- Catholic factions can now get generals that come from knightly orders such as the Teutonic order
- new buildings - Armenian Quarters, Frankish Quarters, Saxon Quarters
- new building - Salt Mines
- new building - Colonies for Venice, Genoa and Ragusa
Game Changes:
- Holy Roman Emperor ancillary is now obtained differently - first must be crowned as King of Italy and travel to Rome before obtaining the Imperial title
- Yes/No event giving the player the option to deactivate the Black Death (keep in mind the Black Death DID NOT kill of factions but rather the Teutonic family tree bug)
- settlement changes - added Bihac, Asti, removed Tunis, Rimini, replaced Alessia with Kruje
- garrison scripts added to many rebel settlements on the map including most of North Italy, Germany and Halych. It will now be a lot harder to conquer certain rebels.
- tons of new traits like the royal bloodlines, education and many more
- reduced the strength of the Timurid stacks by reducing their unit experience levels
- removed armoured barding from Sipahi Lancers and replaced with cloth barding
- removed custom settlement battle map texture for Italy and Germany as well as custom artillery and some armoured horses due to permission issues
- Aydinids now also have access to merchants as a seafaring state
- huge reduction in the conversion rate for priests and churches, it will now be a lot harder to convert a province and hence a lot harder to manage a newly occupied province from a different religion
- reduced the large population of Venice, Milan and Florence to more manageable levels
- increase effect of different religions in a settlement - there will be higher unhappiness levels related to this now
- tweaked the Ottoman economy, they will now be making less money from trade but the unit sizes for siphais, cebelus, azaps etc have doubled. The Ottomans will now have armies with much higher number of soldiers
- tweaked Italian states economy to reduce the income of Central Italian settlements
- increase the costs for the hardcore script - 750 per stack in enemy territory and 1500 for siege
Bug Fixes:
- fixed issue related to the Teutonic family tree causing several factions to die off (Venice, Genoa, Florence) - these factions now no longer have family trees, their noble houses will be kept alive by spawning of historical characters and generals will be recruitable at a high cost. They will not get adoptions either.
- fixed crashes associated with the unit issues (German Pavise Spearmen, Hungarian Crossbowmen etc.)
- fixed issue with unique characters such as Mehmet the Conqueror or Vlad the Impaler not becoming faction heirs when emerging
- spawned heroes such as Mehmed the Conqueror and Vlad the Impaler will now be next heir
I just recently viewed a documentary on Vlad the Impaler - I might play as him in the new version later!

it was a terrifying king, fair in rule, cunning and leading his army on battlefield, fighting his own battles, keeping the wallahian kingdom free from ottomans.
Nobody dares to venture deep into brodding dark forest of carpathian mountains knowing it could be impaled...

Me too but Albania existed when Serbian Empire collapsed so I feel like they added some historically inaccurate things just to make mod feel more diverse then before...
Albanian state existed during this time period, under the Thopia family. It's accurate.

Hi, I encountered a problem...for some unknown reason, the mod won't go fullscreen, even if I change the resolution. Any idea how to fix that?
if not wrong in the cfg file change the windowed form 1 to 0
cfg file in the mod folder find windowed,then change it from 1 to 0
I suffered with the same problem, to solve it is just open the file Tsardoms-2.0.cfg and search for "Windowed" that will be like this: Windowed 1 - change to - Windowed 0 that will work.
Hi, just downloaded and it looks great. Is there anyway to hightlight units on battfield green and red? I just had a battle and only my units highlighted. Its not a gamebreaker i was just wondering. Thanks for the mod and all your hard work.

Could someone help me? I think I follwed the instructions but everytime I run the mod through steam or the Tsardom_beta-1.4 from the files it says "Medieval II suffered a fatal error and now will exit.". I also add the lunch option line so I don't know what cause the problem.
The game crashes to desktop when--I rihgtclick informations about what types of troops a building will unlock once built.
I didn't spam it but also didn't wait 3-4 seconds before rightclicking again. I encountered this CTD in the 1648 mod aswell.
I'll edit this if I see other bugs.

Yes, this crash is not fixable. Its related to medieval 2 UI engine limit and having the maximum number of playable factions unlocked. We have reached the texture limit in the UI and this causes the ctds

Is there a building limit?I can't build anymore in Constantinople because it crashes.
There are crashes related to UI when you right click on a building to read its info. This is a medieval 2 issue related to reaching the UI texture limit.
Do you get a crash when you right click on a building? or does it crash literally when you click on a building to try and build it. Does it happen every time?
I built a couple of buildings a and Than When the next building finished It crashed, reloaded the save and before the building finished I changed iT to another and When that finished It also crashed so I think yes IT Always crashes after I built a certain number of buildings so
there is a limit to the number of total buildings in a settlement?Also I never crashed when I right clicked a building, a couple of units do crash the game.
CTD when clicking on buildings icons to view details, happen randomly. Not it get CTD when end turn at venetians... cannot go further

Finally . As a fan of total war for many years, its a great pleasure to have the possibility to play Albania. i hope this will be the first of many other new mods that will include the oldest nation in the European continent.

Replace your export_descr_buildings with the file above.
It seems the crashes are related to recruitment pools. Let me know if there are still issues after you use this.

Uhm,ive downloaded and extracted to MW mod folder and when i launch it with Tsardoms bat the loading screen apear and after some text come out that i need to exit now.
CAn someone help please,how can i add the text to lanch option when i cant find the Kingdoms launcher ( for past years to lauch it on steam i just double click on MTW2 and it gives me a tab with the kingdoms campaing to launch but there no where how to change launch options) Please i really need this to work been waiting to play as albania for years and years
Just follow the instructions in the file description above. They explain step by step the installation process
Sory for annoying you but ive placed in Mods folder of my MW2 and there is no launcher for Tsardoms ,so how to launch it ?
If you have physical copy of the game just click on Tsardoms_beta-1.4 file in the Tsardoms folder, it's a bat file.
If you use steam go into Steam right click on the Medieval 2 Kingdoms game, go to Properties, then go to Set Launch Options and replace what is there with the following --features.mod=mods/Tsardoms_beta-1.4
And then start regular Medieval 2 through steam
Yes i have a physical copy of game,i extract it to Mods folder and i launch the bat file,all i can see is the map picture and after short time text pops up that - Uh oh,i dont know why,it will exit. Sory pal.

Ah, another thing. check how you unpacked the file. Because it actually creates two folders Tsardoms 1.4 and then another folder in it Tsardoms 1.4 and then the files. You should have all the files in one single folder. Can you check if there are two?

Yes, there should not be two folders. That is why its not working. There should be only one Tsardoms_beta-1.4, so copy everything from the second folder into the first folder.

As already mentioned just go to Description above and click on Read More. It explains how to launch via steam. Just make the changes in Set Launch Options and then just start Medieval 2.
I Already have done that you arent reading the problem.U say put the launch options on MTW2kingdom and i am saying there is not such thing on steam library there is only MTW2 normal launcher not kingdom.its called TWM2 definitive edition,how can i find the one you are suggesting me.
Yes the instructions are for the Definitive Edition, there is no other Medieval 2 on steam.
All you need to do as per the instructions is right click on the game in steam and go to Properties and change the path in Set Launch Options.
