This modification offers an alternative gameplay to Tiberian Wars involving many Tiberian Sun units which many CnC fans (like me) missing in vanilla CNC3 and add even new my made units which you can't find anywhere else. Story is quite the same like Tiberian Wars, but is all about what if GDI and Nod do not abandon technologies they have used in Tiberian Sun era and instead of that further developed them. But it's not only that, there are many visual, sound and balance changes which I want to see and hear in my mod, new sounds, new music, new effects (like blood and gore, new infantry deaths, new more realistic missile trails) and many more.

So here is new avatar and comparing to previous version this one is almost new unit in many ways. First the upgrade system from 1.4 is gone for good. In time i have came up with this idea to create from one unit 2 diferent units with diferent abilities it felt like good idea, but in time prove to be wrong, wrong for one reason, both purifier and sentinel avatar is still same unit for game itself so if you doubleclick on one type both types are selected, but when you want to use only stealth AA avatar you must separate them manually which become reall bother over time.
So this new avatar is anti-ground only and you can cloak him only with nod support power.

Also got no flamethrover so cant clear garrison, you have to use devils tongue or black hands for that, thats the way it should be.

It sounds like he lost everything good, but avatar get dual tiberium beam that makes him reall tank killer and sort of propaganda tower that buff firepower of nod units around, how much that will be matter of testing. This might be controversial idea but i think it fits to nod.
Anyway let speak your mind, what you think, nothing is final and will change if you put good reasons against.

Hmmm... it does sound a bit controversial, if only because the vanilla Avatar had an aspect that made it different from the other "ultimate units." The Mammoth and the Tripod were practically bulldozers in the battlefield that could sweep away lots of units, whereas the Avatar (even in v1.4) was more of an adaptive unit that the player could customize to suit their needs, though I'll admit that I used the Purifier far more times than I did the Sentinel. I'll dare to say it feels a bit less creative, since the Avatar seems to similar now to the Mammoth and Tripod. And the floating holographic symbol of the Brotherhood... kinda resembles something that C&C4 would churn out. I do love the idea of the propaganda ability, but perhaps you could consider giving it a more subtle appearance?

That all said, I love the new legs and overall bulkier aspect you've given it. Now it looks like something that can actually stand by itself and walk. The twin laser arms are awesome and a great nod - no pun intended - to the Core Defender from TS.

I agree with pyrodaimon with the projected nod holo-symbol is far too much silly for my taste and it reminds me of Tib. Twilight. I like the new buffed appearance, but I really don't like the hologram. I'll leave the issue of propaganda for others to decide, but the holo-symbol should be removed.

Ever consider keeping this model but only just remove the nod hologram? You can do that, and make the logo pop up, rotate a bit, and dissappear when the Word of Kane ability is clicked on. That way, no C&C4-ish problems as we dont see the holo at all times, and nice animation for the feedback of the ability!

I like it, the propaganda fits right in. About the holo, I dont see any better way of showing the propaganda. the only other option would be to have speakers, but when you are marching 20-30 of these things the noise would probably drive you mad...

Doesn't this look just awesome? But I am sad the upgrades are gone, I hope you find a way to make the Avatar a more versatile unit, like it was in 1.4, maybe giving it a small range of weaker and cheaper 1-unit-only upgrades, like enhanced leg systems to be faster or making the word of kane an upgrade or more armor to fit the tank killer role or even a more OP upgrade like a third laser? Yes, obviously I am not too comfortable with the Avatar being "a unit with one goal and purpose" maybe I am wrong, but Nod units are sneakier and more versatile than the others, right?

The propaganda ability is something needed. Usually Nod vehicles are lighter and this will be a great benefit. Maybe a single upgrade that gives some benefits (example, flamethrower + stealth or AA beam) can be useful.

The thing i dislike about it is it's overall design. The old avatar, while a bit more slik, had a more massive and interesting design. This new one simply looks like an oversized exo-suit armor. If you were to actualy change the texture from black to grey-gold and from green to some sort of light blue this could just as well be a GDI zone infantry armed with ion guns or railguns. Imo it simply lacks the feel of a bad *** robot, and as i seed ... it's just an oversized zone armor with nod colors on it.

Remember Carnius, GDI = heavy armour = all straight lines, no curves, and blunt rectangular edges, something like a hammer.
NOD = sneaky attacks = all curved lines, with very sharp edges, something like a knife or a dagger.

I don't see how a holographic Nod logo inspires Nod soldiers to do better in combat. The Avatars presence is supposed to do that already. A giant Nod logo won't make a difference, Seriously there are Nod logos everywhere.

I do agree with playmsbk, I enjoyed the Avatar being a versatile unit. That helped compensate for its controversial Mech design.
So perhaps make it a propaganda upgrade, along with an AA or Flame thrower upgrade? Maybe different ones?

IMO the Avatar should stay a versatile unit. That aside The model is great, and I would look forward to using this.

for a hologram cant inspire troops?
its like in WW2 the American flag could not inspire American soldiers to win and go on with the fight, even the situation was worse then ever.

A Flag or icon can bring out stronger energies then normal because you get reminded where you're fighting for. freedom, brothers and meaning.

indeed the avatar stands for that all, but for some it's just a machine. the icon on the other hand, for all you fight for can create even stronger feelings.

but i do got to say about this unit. i liked the lasers better. Tiberium weapons is for cyborgs.

I think the 1.4 Method for the Avatar was better. Reason being is, you have to take the time and credits to customize these guys the way you want to. Therefor, you basicaly had the same power stuffed into 1 tougher unit instead of using a bunch of weaker ones.

The 1.4 versions were not OP at all, but if you or an AI were dumb enough to sit there and let the enemy build these guys up in mass quantity, well, that's your fault. lol

maybe add a "scan" ability. It costs money and can scan your units like flame tank and then boom ya get a flamethrower. Keeps it adaptive and also from destroying your own units. Though still give it some cost to use and a fair cool down or limit the number of scans you can do. Also I think the holo looks nice and not real silly.

This is a very impressive Avatar. Awesome!!! But old one is also good. Actually old one was the best unit for NOD all this time. Can't you keep both? The new has different weapons and abilities and also fit the game. Like GDI has mammoth and Disruptor 2 big weapons Nod could also have 2.

GDI has two big weapons because they steamroll that way. If Nod had two of the same unit, it'd just be redundant, and be like fighting another GDI only they're red and have lasers.

I personally prefer this one, It still looks like a robot but has that heavier assault unit feel, remember that the Avatars were heavy combat units used ONLY well after NOD had begun its attack. At that point they were called in to deal with the heavier GDI units.....

The interesting moment. In official Russian localization this unit carried the name "Marauder" for an opportunity "to borrow" arms at some kinds Nod of vehicles. And as the reporter of journal the Best Computer Games it was expressed was long, is unpleasant and not so is effective as it would be desirable. Now it is already present Avatar and the old name any more does not approach him (though certainly it only not a significant trifle) but as it will affect Nod tactics and balance I I think will show only time.

First reaction: Wow...

Secondly, I was thinking back and forth between the Avatar's Tiberium weapons. I sort of get a very Scrin-ish feeling from it. It feels like it comes out with just everything to 100% as it is now. I think the tiberium lasers could be and upgrade from a tech-centre, just like the rail-guns for GDI and the shields for the Scrin. However this upgrade's got to be more cheap than either of the other two, as this only affects the Avatar (?) and not any other unit.

Excellent work Carnius, however I must admit visually I prefer the old dig grade legs. I also agree that the Avatar’s customisability made it stand apart from its GDI and Scrin counterparts.

Might I suggest turning the spot with the red holographic projector into a single upgradable hard point, with the choice of one of three upgrades?

Propaganda Hologram, Flamethrower (Or portable shredder cannon so it doesn’t clear garrisons) and 1.4’s AA laser.

Indeed. A avatar model based on this concept would look ALOT more nod-ish and ALOT cooler. I also agree that some sort of customization is what made the avatar unique from the mammoth and tripod.

I liked the ability to customize the Avatar.

Some people suggested things like either AA weapon or Flamer... I don't know how others would select, but then I would always get the flamer and build some other units against air.
But I still think it should be possible to customize the Avatar somehow.

Perhaps the choices could relate to what it would be used for, like: hit-and-run, most of the time stationary for defense, offense, or a little of everything...? with every choice having 1-2 negative effects, downsides to them...like in exchange for good defensive capabilities it's movement speed would be greatly reduced ...? or something like that.

Though Nod may not be the type to use heavy (/upgraded) units, there still have to be cases when even Nod has to resort to use such heavy weaponry?!

Hi Carnuis, How r u doing ? well I have some ideas about the new avatar.
In overall, the new model looks very impressed. especially the chest with small head in side and heavy legs. I just like it see it have old blue flamethrover with only one tiberium beam cannon, because its not a tank anyway, otherwise it can use flamethrover while moving which devils tongue can not.and propaganda tower on the back might not be necessary. well what do u think about this ?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Pyrodaimon
Pyrodaimon - - 340 comments

I disagree. I think the Avatar should retain the new propaganda ability; it's just that it doesn't make much sense for it to have such huge machine on its back just to cast a hologram when this is a universe where you can probably just do the same with something smaller than an iPad. Maybe something like the red ripple effect of the Overlord Tank's speaker tower in Generals should be enough to replace, but propaganda/Word of Kane is too Noddish to give up in-game.

Besides, the model itself doesn't look much different. The main differences are that the upper torso is bigger, thus the 'spine' it had isn't as prominent; also, the legs seem stabler and more likely to support the massive machinery attached on them. If anything, maybe just re-adding the fin that it used to have on the right shoulder would make it look less horizontal. But overall, the design is good.

The biggest concern is the (re)balancing of the upgrade/customization feature of the Avatar, which is what distinguishes it the most from the other factions' Tier-3 superunits.

As much as i like the original ability to customize the Avatar. It was eventually a waste of time and credits to upgrade them individually and in the original game it was even a bigger waste of credits and time to have to build a unit first then have the avatar take the units ability. You ended up wasting too many credits and too much time in a fight which made these abilities for the avatar too costly compared to GDI and Scrin getting upgrades from a factory for the avatar. Even the 1.4 version of upgrades that were introduced in this mod still put a heavy strain on your income which is why i see these new avatar feasible over the other.
