So I finally got around to make a 'landed' state for the pods :)
I might give the pods an interior + jettisoned canopy tho.

It means the canopy is ejected when they land, like the first cut scene from the first mission end in GDI campaign, where a rifle man lands in his drop pod jump out and shoot two cyborgs.

I like the TS pods better than the Bumble-everonediesinside-bees from Halo :P

That's something I never understood. Why would the infantry sent to me(Supposedly from the Philadelphia) be willing to shoot their fellow infantrymen also dispatched from the same orbital station? Either way, works for me.

Only reason everyone died inside the pod with master chief is because; One. The Pods fins went off early. Two. The pods fins tore off mid flight as a result. Three. They came in way too fast to survive impact. Armor Lock and suit gel layer likely saved Spartan 117

Because the Covenant got to them first before they could be rescued.
Besides that. The Pilot literally says the fins went off too early and they were going in too fast and to brace for impact. You do rescue the other surviving squads. There is a main difference between those pods and TS pods. Those are life boats (Emergancy Escape Pods) While TS Pods are made for being driven into something. That something being the ground and any enemy they dont shoot on the way down.
No, many died during the landing, not because of the covenant shooting them, but because of the impact.
Only 2-3 people died in every other pod, Most of them got shot as soon as they left it, I went back and studied were the corpses are, Only 1 other pod has 2 people still strapped in, all the pilot models are missing though...
