Half-Life: The Core is a classic retelling of the events surrounding the Resonance Cascade disaster from a new perspective. Featuring intense action, complex puzzles and believable narrative through all-new locations in Black Mesa with remarkable visual fidelity, pacing and humour.
Happy New Year ModDB! Here's an early version of one of the most unforgiving latter stages of the mod. A huge central lab hub plays stage to a nail-biting struggle as the player has to keep their cool and solve several problems under fire!
HOLY HOLY ****! really really nice. It better be unforgiving!.. just kidding.
Thanks for continually leaving positive comments on our media updates, it's great to see the same people coming back again and again because we like to be as involved with the community as possible!
How the hell did you get so good with lighting? Holy ****, this looks great.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the comment! I learned a lot of lighting theory in film school & in my day job. Lighting a scene in a game isn't all that different from lighting a scene for TV. You're still trying to highlight certain things, obscure others and create a mood in the room. It's also a lot of fun to simply whack a big spotlight behind a metal grate and just see what happens!
Indeed, the lighting in this and the rest of the images is just amazing! It is interesting how you implement what you have learned in theory into each of your maps. Light is one of the key factors to make a "living" and moody room and I can say, you nailed this one! Amazing work Archie, keep going!
DAT LIGHTING
Not sure if shadow on the ceiling...
Or a low def texture..
Looks awesome though don't get me wrong. And i though you plan on releasing this on quissshhmassttt!!! :(.Guess i have to wait more....
It's a shadow :)
This makes me wish it was source :/
Why?
Nice, atmospheric lighting.
The recessed lighting looks awesome.
Looks really promising.
I'm sure The Core will be a welcome addition to Half-Life mods.
I would definately give it a try as I still like to play HL1, however I'm pretty bored with the original campaign.
I have to say the screenshots shows some serious detail, in my opinion you made a miracle with this old engine, very well done so far.
Yes, we don't need no SSAO and other resource-hungry fancy stuff to make a game good-looking!
