You are right Neahc!
But that is something that still needs to be done, (this is also explained in the text that i wrote for this 7th update, guess you haven't read it yet.)

My only problem would be the maps. When your first going through the metal bunker sort of area try and make the walls "bumpy" instead of a flat brush either side.

yes, its all still WIP (work in progress). Most custom added textures are not bump mapped yet, but they will be by the time the mod is released. I agree, in 2011/2012 you can't have textures without bump mapping anymore in HL2 ep2 mods. I even am thinking about giving a lot of the original Hl2 textures a bump map because even those are most of the times as flat as they can be.

so, bumpmapping is taken care of!

very nice, but maybe the effect of the strider in the beginning would be better if it would be farther away and walking( insight, out of sight). Also those large doors that open sideways, could open a bit slower.

It looks amazing. Really, the new environments, the mapping everything. I just have 2 concerns:

1: In this video and in previous videos I noticed that you've put cut scenes into the mod in which you actually see Gordon Freeman. I know you've done this in your other mods, but I have to say, since this mod is an "unofficial" episode 3 I would highly advise against it, as a fundamental feature of all the half-life games has been that you never actually see Gordon Freeman in game, you never lose control of the character because all scripted events are still in real time, they happen while you play. Having you actually watch Gordon Freeman doing stuff in game would be very jarring for me and many hl2 fans I think, as it's so contrary to the series.

2: I noticed in this and the last video that you often employ enemies breaking through walls to ambush you as a sort surprise gameplay element. While it's a great thing to encounter in game, I'm just concerned that if you over use it it will actually lose the effect of being startling, as the player comes to expect that stuff all the time.

Still, this mod looks really impressive. In fact if you fixed those two issues it would probably be the half-life 2 mod I am the most excited to play! Either way, thanks for all your hard work leon!

thanks for the nice compliment TimeCrab, and i would like to answer your both questions. let me start with that Gordon can be seen in the cutscenes. it's true that i did this also in my previous sp-mod (Strider Mountain), and many people did comment on it the same way you did. and you are right, in the original Hl1 and 2 series it is just like you say. and although many didn't like seeing Gordon there where about the same amount of people that did like to see him. Still, personally i love cutscenes, to make them and to watch them. and, its a great way to tell the story in this mod through the use of cutscenes. without cutscenes its much harder to tell a story, and its very hard to make cutscenes without showing the player character (Gordon). so, that you can see Gordon is because i need it as a way to tell the story, and also because i myself do like to see him, with many other people. but you are right, a lot of people also don't like this.

about enemies getting through walls etc, you are right here also. when this is used to much then you start to expect them and the surprise is not there anymore. but, be assured, this only happens in a small part of 2 of the 12 maps. so, its not used much. it just maybe looks this way because this news update shows exactly those 2 maps where this happens.

i do my best to make this the best sp-mod i ever have made and i really hope that most people will enjoy it. i always listen to comments from the people here and on other forums, and i do try to take there considerations in mind, and act on them as they would like me to do.

thanks for commenting TimeCrab,

leon

i am sorry X56erx, but i am not sure what you mean because there is no strider in this movie. maybe you could explain it a bit better?

thanks for commenting,
leon

Description

This the movie that comes with the 7th news update.
It shows gameplay fotage of map 10 and 11.
Don't forget that everything is still WIP (work in progress).
And the weapons are therefore not the final versions, i just use them for now. Just before release later this year i will have added the final weapon versions. (And i don't make them myself, just like i didn't make the weapons shown in this movie, ( the came from GameBanana)
