desecrators

There is so much to report, and so little time! This mod has gone above and beyond what anyone asked for.

Want a tour of the wreck of one of those giant ships from Quake 4's opening cinematic? Want to call in air strikes from the famed "Adrianator" bombers seen at the start of Quake 2? Want that bomber from the cancelled Quake 4 expansion "Awakening" to finally blow up some enemies in a game? Then it is as simple as downloading the latest version of Sudden Quake, now.

Remastered units!

War of the Artemisian Witches and the Strogg

Reclaim your place in command of the menacing Strogg harvesters, now even more faithful and detailed as recreations of their Quake 4 counterparts (not to mention a bit larger). Their new detail is so good that it is a virtual remaster. Other units are also made more faithful to the source material.

There are more adaptations of dialogue and sounds from Quake 4 and even Quake 2 for use in the mod.

The changes affect everything. There are so many improvements that they can't even be discussed in this article!

New missions!

Crash site

strogg swarm the hull

Witness the true scale of the giant invasion ships in Quake 4's opening cinematic! The long-lost shipwreck now becomes like a mountain, offering advantages of height and cover in combat. Ingame units can climb the enormous hull of this model taken directly from Quake 4's files, with its texture upscaled in quality at the same time!

As you gather the survivors to take revenge on the Strogg, you get a bunch of interesting varieties of improved Marine skin, including those without their armor or just with their sleeves bared like the action heroes they are.

marine girls

Erebus Energy Facility

strogg tactical equipment

It is time to reclaim your heritage as a Strogg Tactical Transfer, the type of cyborg soldier you were turned into in Quake 4.

Only this time, you get to repay those nasty Marines for their insults. Blow them to pieces with Desecrator hovertanks, of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars fame, or run them over with Hogs, or blast them with strockets from the ground-skipping version of the Tormentor to your delight.

Facing you will be the "Adrianator" ships from Quake 2, assaulting the volcanic moon as the battle rages through the thick toxic dust and and volcanic heat of a moon the Strogg call their own.

Stroyent Facility

stroyent facility multiplayer setting

Finally, we go back to basics. On the cursed and bloodied sands of Stroggos, Marines assault a horrible factory designed to turn them into chow for the Strogg war machine.

Facing you will be the Strogg Tactical Transfers, engaging you in a multiplayer-style battle for the control of the flags. There are no guarantees you will struggle to frag these squibs, though (did I mention that the Marines now all talk like they did in Quake 4?)

vc 11 bombing run

You will be able to call in that powerful Marine bomber from the cancelled Quake 4 expansion "Awakening". Its graceful dive as it blows up the enemy only amplifies a beautiful, aquatic-looking appearance and you will want to prolong the battle just to see it do this again.

What is next?

Making this mod has been so rewarding of an experience that it is tempting to press on with adapting models from Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to fully bring that (and any cancelled concept art for that game) into this game engine.

The game was already perfect for recreating an alien invasion of the classic 1950s kind, and the Strogg invasion of Earth has been woefully neglected in games, with Quake Wars itself only really giving tiny peeks into what should be one of the most brutal and terrifying alien invasions depicted in sci fi.

Since the remaster is out, would be possible to release the Adrianator ship as Resource? id love to see the ship ported back to Q2R as a High Res Md5 model as the Strogg fighters

The model I use was never extracted, it is a recreation of my own making based on my study of the opening q2 cutscene. Same with pretty much everything in this mod. There is enough visible for people to create their own asset with the geometry of that ship perhaps better quality than mine

Oh, I see the update came out. I understand there is nothing new besides the fix?)) By the way, I didn't pass the rest of the missions(except for a couple of missions for the Marines, they walked for 30 minutes) - I don't have time((

the update is a correction to a script that complicated Marine mission 2 from being completed. It was due to my frustration with that mission. Version 3 will be a different update with new maps and settings, most probably on Halloween

Well, I've been through 2 maps so far: Machine city and Castles of Doom. That's what I can say. As for the first map - it's good, it's nice to play for harvesters, and the map itself is passed quickly and out of problems - only finding ways for mobs.

And here's what about Castles of Doom... Well, it took me 8 hours to complete it. And I really liked it. The map is very long and complicated, sometimes we even had to use different tactics (and not stupidly send Stroggs to slaughter). However, during the game I found a lot of problems:

Firstly, something strange is happening to the buildings. They break, then they don't break. I didn't understand what was wrong with them. It turns out that there are troops sitting in them and even if they shoot, they don't shoot anyway, they have to knock them out by sending a small group inside the building. Sometimes it's expensive

Secondly, this mission really lacks some kind of artillery or amphibious drones, like in Quake 4. Seriously, that would be cool.

Thirdly, it is the intelligence of mobs. I understand that you can hardly fix it, but somehow you need to beat it. The fact that they are looking for a bad way is half a bad thing. They shoot terribly and identify targets. Of all the stroggs, the most useful are levitating tanks and Mini harvesters. They are tenacious, quite fast and take down enemies well. Other stroggs available on this map are essentially useless. An army of 100 such stroggs, barely with the support of tanks, can recapture a dig in which 20 people are sitting. I'm not saying anything about the fact that the stroggs are VERY slow (I set the high speed of the game in the settings). While I was sending them to their destination, I had time to warm up tea and food in the microwave. I'm not kidding))
In order to play more or less comfortably, in such cases I used the tactic of "gradual destruction". I sent Stroggs 2 meters further every few minutes, then they could evenly clear the trenches. Although, if my army is under rocket fire, there may be problems, but still the tactics are working. A couple of times I even managed to implement encirclement tactics, towards the end of the game.

In general, this is all of the problems. There are no complaints about everything else. Sounds, level design - everything is on top
Well, I guess I'll start the next mission. Then I will write a review about them)
Thanks for your attention

thanks. I did think the Castles of Doom one would be a long mission and maybe there should be more air strikes in that mission to help, but to be honest I think you are doing the missions well. I would like to know if people prefer returning to a very long and tough mission over days, or if they prefer a single 1 hour mission as the ideal

Air strikes on Castles of Doom may be rare, but let them be. There is of course the possibility of an airstrike, but only 1 time per game. Personally, I love long challenging missions. Well, for example, I passed Machine City in 2 hours and Castles of Doom in 8 hours. Even despite the problems, I liked the second one more))

I had been finding the Strogg very tough to fight in the Marine campaign and was going to disagree about Strogg speeds but looked into it more. I believe you are right about this now because the Marine speed is set to 3.5, but Strogg light guards are slower, iron maidens and gunners are at 1.9 (Strogg Tacticals have speed set to 4 so you probably will like them better as troops for example, if you try the Strogg campaign.) Because the Strogg usually fight with no vehicles, the slowness of normal Strogg grunts reduces their mobility over the battlefield and should be increased in the next mod update. Still glad you are liking the mod

This is incredibly cool and I love the idea! Do you plan on addressing visibility issues with units against the backgrounds? Sometimes they are *extremely* hard to see, haha.

I know what you mean, however, I would only suggest hitting space bar to display all your own unit icons and the enemy health bars, as it can be hard to keep track of the units and their status visually like you described
