Set in the Late Victorian Era, Steam & Steel: Total War features 30 factions and 5 sub-factions from the British Empire to the Sultanate of Aceh. The global campaign contains hundreds of meticulously researched regions, as well as unique political, economic, social and AI mechanics. The weapons and tactics of the era are well represented with 500 unique units each equipped with distinct weapons from jingals to howitzers. The culmination of years of development, research and testing, S&S will remain an active project; continuing in its aim of popularizing the history of the late 19th century.

The redeeming feature of war is that it puts a nation to the test... war passes supreme judgment upon social systems that have outlived their vitality.

Karl Marx, German socialist philosopher.

Finalist in the 2023 Mod of the Year Awards

Set in the Late Victorian Era, Steam and Steel Total War is a world-encompassing total conversion of Medieval II Total War. The four decades between 1860 to 1900 bore witness to perhaps the greatest upheaval in history. The power of Steam enabled Europeans to shrink the world and grow their Empires, as dark puffs of smoke extended inexorably into hitherto inaccessible territories. The rapid industrialization of production, agriculture and eventually society itself demanded rapid political changes as antiquated regimes found themselves driven to the precipice, reluctant to countenance either revolution or reform. Intellectual movements from nationalism to socialism added fuel to the fire, continually pressing forwards the wheel of change. Yet it would ultimately be blood and iron which decided the issues of the day, and the cost in both would grow ever-higher. Technological developments such as breech-loading rifles and rapid fire artillery combined with rapidly growing populations and more efficient state structures to enable modern Total War for the first time in history.

Change, or fear thereof, was the common thread which tied together the 30 disparate factions uncomfortably inhabiting the world of 1860. Regardless of whether your colours were British Red, Brazillian Green or Qing Yellow, the march of progress would be unrelenting in this age of Steam and Steel.

I have played the campaign for 100 turns without the game crashing, which is nice, so good job. However, the siege maps still need a lot of fixing. I've encountered holes in the middle of the settlement whenever I siege Hamburg, there is also the siege map of the German Confederation(Switzerland) where a huge square body of water is sticking out of the settlement, which is weird.

Hey all, every time I try to run a campaign, there is a fatal graphics error or an unknown error. I put my GeForce graphics on the lowest setting. Please help.

You need kingdoms batch file to run the campaign. Don't forget to also apply the 4gb patch for kingdoms and medieval batch file.

The installer does not find my installation of Medieval 2, and when I am copypasting the exact path from the Windows Explorer to the installer, it says this folder does not exist despite actually existing. I also moved the installer and all the files into the mods folder, and it still can't find the installation.

You don't need to run the installer if you have the prerequisites(the graphic libraries which are required for almost every game, 4GB patched exe and one more thing, it's all in the .bat)
