"What if I have a 1080P display?"

My above mod is designed for 4k-8k displays and its size implies the quality of the textures are literally comparable to a modern games in resolution. If you have a low resolution display I recommend just downloading this free mod from the user below since its more appropriate. However if you look at his 9th photo its clearly not great, and the rest are taken very far away from texture surfaces for a reason. I wouldnt even bother with the other smaller sized free mods. They are incomplete and a blurry mess like the original graphics.

"What if I have a 2k display?"

Its up to you. I optimized the texture resolution for eye level against walls and objects, like pillars and doors at 4k with Zen 3 for this available version. My mod is still overkill for 2k displays but you can still see the difference vs the best free mod.

"What if I have a 4k display?"

Buy the mod.

"What if I have a 5k screen?"

I dont have one to test but id assume you should buy my mod if you have at least Ampere and are willing to forego raytracing.

"What if I have an 8k screen?"

You will need the next generation of GPUs to hit 30fps minimums. This engine was efficient for its time, but its definitely a performance black hole when you start asking it to do insanity like this. Even my RTX 4090 is like.... nope. Thats without raytracing.

"What do I get for 10$?"

The objectively best texture mod for this game in the world and when the new series of GPU launches you get 2 versions for download. The id tech 3 balls to the wall absolutely maxed out version requires Zen 4 and the launching 2025 series Ada Lovelace Next (2nm Lovelace shrink) to have acceptable performance.

"What if my CPU is slower than a Zen 3 chip? Can I overclock it to bridge the gap?"

It should run fine until you get to the prison level where you get captured. By default the game forces first person perspective as your lightsaber is taken away, so the player view is closer to texture assets. This level therefore is very close to crashing despite being optimized for Zen 3 at each level segment loading point. It will otherwise stutter loading in mipmaps for these giant textures the first time. But Zen 2 youll want to ramp clockrates if thats acceptable to you.

"Are there any side effects to this mod?"

Loading times. Raytracing works better at higher framerates due to a limitation of id tech 3. Most character outfit peripheral color selection is black.

"Is this x86 maxed out?"

Not yet but its very close. You will need a Zen 4 chip or better, a 5k or 8k display, along with a next generation GPU series. The hardware doesn't exist yet so I will not make this version until it does. Literally to max out id tech 3 you need a higher than 4k resolution display or all its going to do is increase loading times for no visual difference as I literally optimized this version for what can be seen by the human eye with a 4k display which WAS a huge pain in the ***. Buyers get both versions for 10$.

"Isnt there a such thing as TOO much detail?"

Can you see Midi-chlorians with the naked eye? How about atoms? Electrons? This game doesnt support widespread detail textures like Aliens vs Predator 2 does, so im brute forcing them. Im also not adding detail where it is inappropriate like some glass shader effects and surfaces. I actually bothered to handcraft the shader effects since many rely on textures to work. The reason this mod isnt free is because I genuinely put more work into the textures than some professional studios do for remasters. Down to learning how to mirror edges and in paint.net blend textures at seams together. Which was the most time consuming part of this mod by far. I just dont care very much about marketing. Its very obvious once you try it you arent wasting your money. Its legitimately world class quality textures for this classic.

I will be releasing other mods like this in the future. But only games people actually care about. Previously I would launch free mods of identical quality but for games no one cares about really anymore mostly because I was annoyed at how poorly done a lot of other peoples texture mods were. The usual 4x AI upload just isnt good enough for my taste as I see it as extremely lazy and hundreds of times less work in reality than something like this. At least for the retro niche. For something modern its perfectly acceptable since the quality is already amazing and might not even be necessary in the first place. The screenspace raytracing effect has a heightmap bumpy effect similar to bump mapping. Its like forcing less effective more expensive normal maps.
