Another recent addition to the Imperial Navy, the Harpy-class strike cruiser is a direct competitor for Starfleet's own formidable Defiant-class warship. Though not as small or compact as her Federation rival, the Harpy follows in the same spirit, offering overwhelming forward firepower, speed and manoeuvrability.
Entering service in the 2370s, like the Defiant development of the Harpy began after the destruction of a Federation fleet at the hands of a single Borg ship at Wolf 359. The Romulans have the foresight to know that their own confrontation with the Borg is inevitable, and besides, if the Borg are so interested in the Federation, surely the Empire is an irresistible target also.
To that end, the Harpy is designed to engage enemies far larger than itself, delivering blistering strafing runs, utilising its incredible firepower and great speed to maximum effect. Armed with four forward firing heavy disruptor cannons and capable of devastating volleys of fiery plasma torpedoes, the Harpy is a vicious and truly deadly warship worthy of the Romulan Star Empire.
