Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
After the conclusion of the Dominion War the Romulan Star Empire found itself in an interesting position. While the victory over the Dominion in the Alpha Quadrant had cost many Romulan lives, the Romulans were, in fact, left in far better shape than the Federation or the Klingon Empire. While their old rivals were left weakened militarily and economically, requiring years or even decades to rebuild, the Romulans were free to strengthen their position with new technology, new weapons, and new ships.
The immediate result of this Romulan consolidation was the Valdore-class warbird, one of the latest and most advanced additions to the Imperial Navy. Starfleet knows little about this particular breed of warbird save that it exists and carries enough firepower to put earlier warbirds, including the mighty D'deridex to shame. The truth behind the Valdore's design, however, is somewhat more interesting.
A departure from the traditions of Romulan warbird design, the Valdore is fast and nimble, as opposed to the powerful but lumbering designs of earlier days. Indeed, the Valdore is directly inspired by the Romulans' observations of Dominion warships in action, combining speed with immense firepower for devastating strafing runs on enemy targets. Combining these tactics with Romulan cloaking technology, the Romulan scientists who designed her have every reason to believe the Valdore will be one of the defining warships of the late 24th Century.
Experienced Romulan military commanders are less convinced. While the Valdore is indeed swift and powerful, the concern is that during her design too much emphasis was placed on the Valdore's speed and offensive capabilities, and not enough on her durability. In the hands of a shrewd commander, perhaps the Valdore will finally prove herself. To this end, many Valdore warbirds serve under the famed Commander Donatra, who commands an elite squadron of advanced warbirds with the prototype IRW Valdore itself as her personal flagship.
A solid, if underutilized ship because of the Tavara. Excited to see what the team will bring to put this warbird back into the category of capital ships to use.
There are already a number of reasons to build the Valdore rather than the Tavara. The Valore is faster and better suited to hitting the enemy behind the lines than the Tavara, which is more of a tank. And that Quantum Ballista, which the Tavara lacks, is deadly. While the Tavara has somewhat more firepower, its only major advantage over the Valdore is its durability.
Considering nature of Sins space battles, Tavara is complete update over Valdore.
Valdore is interesting, but Tavara is generally better as combat craft. I always target it as priority. No, wait, I mean as PRIORITY.
Even Scimitar looks hilarious, when compared with bunch of Tavaras.
I tend to agree. I think the fact that the Tavara and Valdore unlock so close to each other causes some of the problem. If the Valdore was unlocked earlier I believe it might see more use.
This is not the problem. Stats decide everything.
