Return to the Zone in S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Wormwood, a high-difficulty survival-oriented realism modification for GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. Wormwood builds upon the core Stalker experience, enriching the latest in the cult game series with brand new survival mechanics, intense and realistic gunplay, new missions, levels, fleshed-out building interiors and much, much more.

Hi all,

It's with a heavy heart that I announce that I'm putting Wormwood under an indefinite hiatus.

Unfortunately, many of Wormwood's core modders have been unable to dedicate the time they'd like to to the mod. We hope to be able to return to the mod at some point in the future, but only time will tell.

I'd like to thank Beacon, Thunderfreak, Rikimaru, TacticalNuclearSchnitzel, 0ktober, Hugo and Stirls for their considerable contributions to the mod, as well as Bottswana, BologniusMaximus, Kickasskyle, Spetsnazer, Stirls, RonhillUltra, DeflectionDrive, Cromm Cruac, smrtphoneusr, Darkenneko, Discartyptics, ArchSonix, ZombieDawgs, Virgil, Spacebrain, STALKER_2010, Ossian, Theman!, TsundereRintsu, Alundaio, Loner1, Highflex, Paravin and Toxicat for their help.

Last but not least I want to thank all the fans who've supported us during the development of Wormwood. I hope to have something to show you, someday.

I wish all our colleagues every success in their current and future mods, and I hope they'll always been dedicated modders keeping the Zone and the world of Stalker alive.

Working on Wormwood's been a great five years for me, and I hope you've all got something out of it too.

Signing off,

etcetera

We can't get a current build of the mod as is?

I second that - it would be great to get Wormwood even as modder's resource pack.

Wouldn't work. The current build isn't anything near stable. And would take too much effort to even get it to work.

Doesnt have to be. Look at City 17: Episode One mod. It doesnt work but source code was still released.
The mod i was talking about: Moddb.com

Cryin' shame. But yeah, you guys should release all of the latest assets, be even more of a shame if they disappear into the either.

Well another mod down the drain. Guess the modding community is dead and should be buried now. Misery 2.2 is never ever, Gunslinger is dead, SHOKER 3 is but a dream.

RIP.

Modding community is not dead. ShokerTeam has uploaded a new video about new version 3.0 two weeks ago and the Gunslinger is still getting updates, but less frequent than before. I don't know about Misery, but since they have over 4000 watchers (actually over 4500) then I think that they will not leave it like that. It's always better to wait for a high quality mod than some modpacks which are just using stuff from other mods or unfinished mods which are the worst.

Development of MISERY 2.2 is still ongoing (to give you a clear picture, we had 27 internal patches in a little less than two months). It's just that we're not committing to any specific release date; when we have something solid - a stable and finished release candidate - M2.2 is going to see the light of day. No sooner than that.

Community is dead? Yeah, okay...considering a Stalker mod has been number one for 2 weeks now. Or the fact that Ap-pro.ru has several hundreds of visitors every day with new mods coming out every other month.

If you were talking specifically about English-speaking community I would agree but you listed two Russian mods.

Beacon's CoP maps are very detailed from the screenshots I saw. It would be cool if he did, if they truly do not plan to develop it anymore.

These things happen, everyone has a lot going on IRL and making great mods at spare time is a big sacrifice.

My work isn't done yet, though. I'm still creating a fitting, atmospheric soundtrack - even if Wormwood is put to rest, or if / when it rises again. Every second I spend composing the soundtrack I imagine the scenery you guys had in mind.

See you guys in the Zone. Maybe one day.

I fully understand that real life is not easy and why have you have ended, but PLEASE can you release what you got as a resource pack? Like multiple people say before me. Please don't let this awesome mod die like L.U.R.K. or S.M.R.T.E.R.

Time spent? Or are you saying that work on a full engine errors being difficult. 5 years not to drop or simply one BETA? Sorry friend, it is not lack of time, but tired of working in a bad engine. I say this because I am sick to continue my modification, on the X-Ray ... A change what I was doing for DOOM 3, was easier than Mecher in Blender or Maya ... Because the SDK and the engine is Linda, STALKER now, I'm sorry, STALKER has his reasons to be Bankrupt.

Lesson 5 from The Cathedral and the Bazaar:

"When you lose interest in a program, your last duty to it is to hand it off to a competent successor."

I know this book pertains to the creation of open-source software, but I don't see why it can't apply here. I was really interested in this mod and would love to see work continue, but I'm afraid I alone don't have the capacity for building any sort of nigh-commercial grade software.

Still, if work must be halted, I can understand that real life gets in the way sometimes.

Here's hoping that you find some time in the future to resume your project.

Damn... this is a shame. This mod offered some absolutely fantastic ideas for features and looked as it was doing a really good job at capturing a true remake with all the polish it looked like it was getting.
I would really hate to see all the hype that's been building up to go into an absolute waste. Don't get me wrong I'm very grateful that you guys spent your very own personal time on a project like this, but I just can't help but get the feeling that we all want at least the current build you all have atm. We won't care if it doesn't have ALL the features because the progress you've all made has been significant and meaningful. Besides, other modders could just pick up where you left off. The STALKER franchise is my absolutely most favorite one to date and I get joy each time someone makes even a small tweak.

Regardless, thank you everyone who worked on this mod. People like you are what keeps this community thriving and this masterpiece of a franchise alive. That means a lot to me and so many other people and I just want you all to understand that.

See You Space Cowboy...
