If you haven’t played 2007’s most immersive and atmospheric shooter, or you’re back for replay, this mod is for you. This is the world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. like you’ve never seen before, with updated graphics and added functionality that don’t change the original story or gameplay. The game hasn’t been changed beyond recognition, but rather enhanced while preserving the core elements that made it the unique experience it is.

I have to say very nice mod but I have a few issues with it, I understand you stated it is best played at the hardest setting, But even on novice difficulty I get one shot and die from a shotgun at 100 feet away which is kind of unrealistic maybe?.

And the last thing that I want you to fix is the running speed, It is literally identical to the walking speed and I cant get the armor in the chest at the starting of the game due to me cant run and jump to the other roof in the village .

Overall I am happy with it and works very well but please just at least, ATLEAST fix the the running speed to make the dude run faster cause it the same as the walking speed.

Heya, I'm glad you like it, thanks.

A 100 feet are about 30 meters... it may be a bit of a stretch for buckshot, but not entirely impossible. Long-barrelled shotties have an even higher reach. I'd consider it unrealistic not to be able to get shot from higher distances. Keep in mind that you can do the same as well - if you can see it, you can shoot it, and so can NPC's. At any measure, it is imperative to always use cover, as NPC's now really go for the "soft spot".

I think, you confuse walking with running. The game's default speed is running. It's true - run-speed is very close to sprint-speed, but definately not identical and noticable.

As for sprint-speed: you CAN get to the other roof in the village, but the timing and jump-position have to be flawless (sprint from the gable and jump at the very last moment before the fall). I did that on purpose to make it a bit more realistic. I think, to run/sprint with 30-50 kg at the present setting still isn't very realistic, but bearable. Sprint-speed really shouldn't be any higher and you can reach any place you need to. I hope, that helps. Cheers

Being shot at 30 meters by buckshot will NOT give you an instant kill. Rather it will wound you. Being shot with AP rifle amo at 30 meters to the head is one of the few things that WILL kill you.

I don't agree with changing the weapon stats to your preferences as they only serve your own interests. You should keep those files to yourself, and release files which are balanced inline with the original game.
(Or leave it in the .RAR file as an optional extra).

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Too-Off

Whether what will kill you or not, is a moot question.

I did some research on weapon/ammo stats, however. The only thing I can't know is, how accurate each specific model would be in real life. I guess, they'd each be far more accurate, than these game-counterparts. And that's what this is: a game. And it should be about fun.

But thank you for this "constructive" critique.

And thank you for telling me what I should do with my free time and work, which I release so others can enjoy it as well. If you don't like it, don't download it!

I'm getting irritated that I get one shot all the time but at the same time I love it, it's realistically difficult and challenging n fun just causes me to shout bloody hell alot lol but when I finally get passed those killing me it feels awesome, all these mods are great I just wish I had better aim than the npc's cos that's the main reason I die. I'm getting better but god damn. 10/10 for your mods Too-Off

I know I said I was loving / hating the fact I kept getting one shotted... now I'm just getting irritated n bored to be honest, I want to be able to kill people with difficulty but not the amount caused by this mod I die and characters die constantly, like i'm trying to fight my way into the freedom base with duty and they all die then I die. I do love this mod but is there anyway of disabling / reducing just the way npcs can one shot you to make it more shots / less difficult while still keeping all the other awesome things this mod does?

Nice list of weapons, but thus far I've died 10 times in the car park while trying to be careful... Dying from other people who have makarov's and see me in this darkness and always get off the first shot, and my own gun feels like I can't possibly do the same to them is not so fun. I suppose I'm too used to other mods right now and diving right in instead of looking for items.

After running around a while, getting some armor, picking up way more than enough ammo, a silenced pistol, and bothering to hip-fire instead of iron sighting at short ranges, I managed to do the car park. Hooray.

Impressively, a military man found me once and downed me with one bullet. And there is an inaccessible roof in the cordon village that you have to jump to from a truck on the southeast corner. At least, I couldn't make that jump.

True, the first weapons you can get for free aren't very effective. That will change very soon, though. But you'll have to earn it. In the end you will have a hard time deciding with which weapons you want to go to combat.
I myself, usually take out the carpark and the military outpost to the south with only the silenced PB. It's absolutely doable. Don't forget to equip the rookies with the rifles you snatched. =)

Strelok isn't Batman. And the attic in the building at the southeast corner of the village has nothing noteworthy anyway. A small sacrifice for better immersion and suspense at the prospect of an untimely and violent demise.

Reply Good karma+3 votes

I'll build in an alternative access to those two village-attics. If you're willing to start a new game, I can upload an "unofficial" update. But I really won't change sprint-speed, please do understand.

I'd be interested in this unofficial update that gets me into these two buildings in the village, could use a merc suit instead of the default no suit whatsoever at the start. Thanks!

You can get onto both roofs without any adjustment of the settings! It's not supposed to be easy, but if you have patience to try, it can be done. If that doesn't help, try the movement-patch. I'll admit it, the actual overall movement-speeds aren't really satisfactory, hence the movement-patch: Mediafire.com

How to get onto the roof of the south-east building:
At the south-west corner of said building is a tree. Climb that tree from the back until you're on the first branch, jump onto the next branch and from there onto the roof. For a slightly higher jump, crouch and jump, and while jumping release crouch. Timing is key. You can get to places you never thought you could - but it's still going to be very difficult.

As for that "unofficial" update... that's last year's water under the bridge, I'm afraid. I'm already too far in, reassembling the whole add-on. It's simply too much work, to throw out all other new features, only to accommodate a few people who don't have the will or patience to just try and eventually get it done.
Actually, I find it quite fascinating... all the stuff I put into this add-on, "new-to-complete" features, all the balancing... and people barely find more than to complain about how they can't get from one roof to another.

Look at it this way: I've spent a lot of time to get this to work - I've done it for free, passionately so. How about you investing some time and practice and actually earn that suit.

On the other hand, though: thank you for playing.

Reply Good karma+2 votes
Mordimer1975

Appreciate the detailed feedback. If I'm running around without any suit getting easily killed, I cannot progress hence appreciate all the hard work you put into this mod for free. Having said that I'll have a look at the patch and tinker with the settings if I can figure them out. Thank you for publishing this and for the record I wasn't complaining so your comments are a bit misdirected but that is not important. Vielen Dank!

Gern geschehen.

Complain may have been a bit too harsh an expression, apologies. It, however, appears to be the main issue.

Anyway, my idea behind that is, to achieve a slowed down, more intense gameplay - with slower actor movement, accurate enemies and higher damage-deal for weapons, the player is vulnerable and forced to play in a more tactical way. I think, that goes well with the game's overall atmosphere.

Again, you really don't need to do anything on the settings, except maybe include the patch. In another post I already gave a detailed how-to get the suit. It's perfectly doable.

Maybe an error occured during installation. Uninstall everything properly, delete all remaining files and folders, and then make a fresh installation. Remember, you need COMPLETE as a base. If you use GoG or STEAM versions, I can't help you.

Excuse the necro post, but I have the GOG version, and it works perfectly. I did downgrade it to the 1.0005 patch, from 1.006 though.

No worries. At least now I have almost an idea, what a "necro post" is. =)

Yeah, I read here and there, that it may work. But not everyone is willing or capable, to go through the trouble of tweaking the registry - however simple it actually is. Another thing is that, I don't know about STEAM's or GoG's SoC-filestructures, so there's that too. But thanks for telling. Cheers

Here's what I used to downgrade from 1.0006 to 1.005. Not my tweak, I got it on here and saved can't recall the original posters' name, sorry.
-------------------------------------------------
Warning: Please DO NOT edit anything in the registry unless instructed to do so. Incorrect editing of the registry can seriously damage your OS. Requiring a complete re-install to fix!

1. Press win key + R and type "Regedit" hit ok.
2. Navigate to Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC (For 64-Bit systems, 32-Bit seems to be missing the Wow6432Node subfolder, but haven't tested this)
3.Change the following values by right clicking on the heading and selecting modify, then clicking OK
(See Screens)
- InstallLang = en
(Is case sensitive! The patches install language)
- InstallVers= 1.0004
(This tricks the patch into thinking you have v1.0004 installed)
- InstallSource = stk-for-pack-noprot-efis
(This will make sure that the installer will recognize a US version of the game which will allow you to install the patch)
Close the window.
(All settings are saved on exit)

Now you should be able to install the US v1.0005 patch .
Note: You will get a runtime error about not being able to find the read me. Just ignore it ;)
However it will install under
C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl
(At least that is what happened on my computer).
Therefore you need to copy the files manually from that patch installation directory to the GoG Install directory.

You will also need to delete the following files from the GoG Install directory based on which patch you just downgraded to.
For patch v1.0005 delete gamedata.dbd (this is installed by v1.0006)
For patch v1.0004 delete gamedata.dbb, gamedata.dbc (these are added by v1.0005)
----------------------------------
note: when I deleted these, my game would not start. Restored, everything worked fine. Recycle Bin is our friend. :)
------------------------------------
If done correctly your game will now be patched to V1.0005 and you can install all those awesome mods :)

For downgrading to v1.0004. Just replace
- InstallVers= 1.0004
with
- InstallVers= 1.0003

This tutorial is by Issar077 and TheMechanist @ GoG.

MarcoCarlo pointed it out last year, and I've included it in my previous versions. The process is actually pretty straight forward. If you just look at the tut, it appears a bit complicated, but it really isn't. Though since I own the disc-version, I never needed it.

Upon request, here's a movement-patch.
Sprint-speed's a wee-bit higher - at the cost of faster stamina-depletion and lower run-speed - did not someone sometime ago ask me to do just that?! Oh well...

Hi! I really enjoy your complete mod and i've been trying your gearpack recently but the mod has been way more hardcore then i can handle!

So i was hoping if anyone could help point me to the right files so i could tweak ’em too more 'vanilla' values (Enemy accuracy, armor, weapon damage, mutant damage, etc) I'm not very familiar with stalkers file setup and have only tweaked a couple games for myself in the past. If you can help thanks a bunch!

Hi there.
First, COMPLETE is not my work. It's Paul's. I'm responsible for THE GEARPACK (including additional content and making the tweaks you call hardcore). I'm sorry to tell you, but THE GEARPACK is not intended for easy gameplay. Now, I never played Misery, but I read that that one is hardcore. Anyway, this one ought to be more challenging, because there are players, such as myself, who played the game for years and will be glad not to play a mod where they get thrown at with cotton-balls. I'm sure, there are a lot of other mods for you, with easier gameplay, and you still can play COMPLETE unGEARPACKED. COMPLETE is a brilliant mod for new, or less experienced stalkers/players.

Reply Good karma+1 vote

Very correct about Misery, impressive mod, but very tough, almost to the point of realism. Can be very frustrating if patience or experience is a touch low.
i find the gearpack challenging, but not overly so, if you think tactically, use cover and try to keep track of flanking enemies. I love it, you are rarely ever safe, and then not for long.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes
Too-Off Author
Too-Off

Spot on, thank you!

That's what I wanted to achieve - challenging, but not unfair.
NPC's may now even hunt down mutants (i.e. leaving their posts where they usually wait for you, and thus creating a better dynamic), and if they spot you nearby, they're likely to seek you out. And if you're too busy checking your inventory, they'll sneak up on you and "bang"... often even when you're in a building (Pripyat f. ex.). Of course, these settings sometimes still can provoke some weird behaviour - it's not perfect.

Btw., have you tried to equip NPC's with better weapons (mainly rifle/shottie combos)? Did you notice, how they change their guns according to target distance? I love that feature.

Hello, Coup!

I've recently played trough SoC with COMPLETE 2009, and SC Realistic Weapons add-on 0.8.

It was my first time playing through the game.

I really want to try out your mod, but with downloading SC Realistic Weapons previously, your mod would be incompatible.

How would I go about rectifying this predicament?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Too-Off Author
Too-Off

Hey Brady

what you can do is, simply rename the existing gamedata folder to something unique like "gamedata_SCRW0.8". You can keep it where it is, and maybe you'll want to return to it sometime.
Then reinstall COMPLETE and make a back-up copy of its gamedata. It really will make your life easier, in case an error occurs, or something. Then simply install THE GEARPACK as described in the manual.

You can have several iterations of gamedata folders in the main SoC folder. Those, who have a unique filename, apart from "gamedata", will not be active. Or in other words, only the one simply called "gamedata" will be active. You can switch between mods anytime. Just make sure you know which saves to use. =)

Hello i have a problem. I can't see description of weapons. For example i see only enc_weapon1_scorpion. It's not a problem but i can't check what kind of ammo I need for a weapon and this may be annoying. Oh, and i changed language to my native i hope it isn't a problem. Greetings, mod is seems to be pretty cool ;)

THE GEARPACK is not available in your native language.

- Install the game, as advised in the manual, in english.

- Or copy all files located in:
gamedata>config>text>eng
and paste them into your language's folder:
gamedata>config>text>???

All missing text will be in english, all else in your native tongue.

Yeah, there's no significant difference between novice and master mode. On novice, NPC's simply don't hit as accurate as on master, but it's marginal.

And no, no more automatic antirads with those suits. That was annoying as hell. I want to apply them, when I see fit, and not as soon as I have just a little rad-poisoning. I hope that makes sense...
