i'm glad, i honestly like apertures style a lot better, everything looks clean, surgical and finished. black mesa seemed to get it into working condition and leave it that way and not polish it up.
I like Aperture design too. That concept is made just to show basic shapes of the weapon, not skin. We already have a new one, which looks like from Aperture science ;). Im sure we will release it soon :)

It's really really REALLY well made, but I wouldn't say it's from Half Life if no one told me.
This should have a bit of a weathered look to it, like the gravity gun.
i would definitely label this thing a gauss/gravity high energy propulsion sort of deal, basically rail gun!
you could even give it a working scope and that guass cannon feel to it when fired, but maybe more "blue", sci-fi-esque with the lighting or static affects to go along
i personally think that the tracer for the combine assault rifle would be perfect, but since it is the staple combine ammunition, i guess you'd have to come up with something over the top =P
you can even give the rounds explosive properties, almost like the guass, but the radius would have to be really small, but would all the more prove that being shot with it is definitely fatal.

also you could make it so that if too many shots are fired in quick succession that the gun overheats, possibly a vent cover ejecting, hissing or siren, maybe steam or smoke coming from the barrel or said vent outlet, maybe even make the barrel have more holes or longer flash hider slits at the end, or a fin stabilizer.
come to think of it, looks like a cross between covenant carbine and covenant particle beam rifle.
