The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Based off of the turrets seen in Battlefront 2's Starfighter Assault mode, these turret satellites will replace the ones currently in-game for all factions. What you see here are the base satellite, with no turret built onto it, as well as an anti-fighter satellite, turbolaser satellite, and concussion missile satellite.
If the quality of these screenshots seems somehow degraded, I apologize. The hard drive that I had EaW installed on was going to die and after I changed install directories for the game to a better drive...all of my mod tools stopped working, so I had to do this on my laptop. It's a fine gaming laptop but nowhere near as good as my desktop. Hopefully I'll get that sorted out soon...
Anyway, this screenshot is a first batch only. Ion turrets, repair turrets, radar and radar concealing turrets will also be introduced in the future.
Looks like a really cool concept better than the vanilla ones
Thanks!
im very happy you change the models I always hate the old one :P
Agreed, it was a much needed improvement. The base models weren't very Star Wars-y
I will consider this my birthday present :D
"weren't very Star Wars-y", you mean, like the sequel trilogy? Sorry it was a low hanging fruit, but I had to take a swing
Those solar panels could be useful for a new tie fighter
Kind of like the panels on the Inquisitor's TIE Advanced prototype.
Solar panels for satellites? Now that is a great idea, I may just have to borrow that idea.
Likely inspired by the turrets in the new BF2 Starfighter maps.

Captions mother****er, do you read them?
Lol. Just kidding but yes, they were.
Omg that looks sexy as all hell. 😍😍

Glad to hear you managed to save all your files, I can hardly imagine what would have happened if your hard drive suddenly died and you lost all your mod files. Anyway, the turrets look gorgeous, I disliked the vanills ones, but I am going to love spaming those. I guess it will work like in vanilla eaw, or maybe you will add an ability that allows to place them anywhere the user wants? For example there could be a "crane" ship with the ability to deploy a type of turret just like the ATAT can deploy a limited ammount of stormtroopers. This could be interesting for the "rebels" (new republic) as they are more of a defensive faction.
That kind of mechanic could be implemented but the problem is getting the AI to use it. Not impossible but a lot of work that isn't feasible at this stage in development. They will function identically to the vanilla ones, the difference being that there will be more types to choose from, so a greater breadth of strategic options.
Oh and for the record, I have the mod backed up in triplicate... One copy on the desktop, one on the laptop, and one on a portable storage. It's over 10 years of work... I don't mess around with that ****. LOL
Over 200 pages written in a novel I was trying to do, and yeah, I was that idiot. I think your idea is better
What are your PC specs? :P
Desktop:
8gb DDR5 RAM
i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960
Laptop:
8GB DDR3 RAM
i5 (unsure exact specs...laptop not on atm)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 870 (whatever the mobile version of this is)
Anything you could say on the effectiveness of these compared to the vanilla ones? Those always felt uninspiring.
I agree. The vanilla turrets were mostly useless, except maybe the Consortium's diamond boron missile turret.
My thoughts on the matter are that the turrets should be a a speed bump but not a complete deterrent.
In other words, they should be strong enough to give ships some pause and not allow them to march right into your base. However, they also should not be able to take on a Star Destroyer or even an Assault Frigate 1 on 1. They are defensive structures...because no human player can be everywhere at once...but at the same time, should not be allowed to rely on turrets to do all the work for them. That's the RTS equivalent of camping.
In fact, there was an entire strategy built around this in Dawn of War called "turret rushing". Turrets in that game were really powerful so players would rush the enemy base and surround it with turrets. This effectively pinned the enemy in their base, while the player collected all the resources and built an army. SUPER CHEAP.
The age of empires 2 tower rush is even better. You pin down the enemy while you take their limited resources around their base lol.
Yep, same idea. I mean...it works if your only objective is to win...but it's annoying as hell and not fun to be on the receiving end. Lol.
I hope they'll be stronger and more efficient than the vanilla ones. A bit more challenge doesn't hurt.
