Hey guys, That One Bullet here. I'm now officially in SMG, helping out on the next release. Join me for a livestream of the mod on Twitch.tv Sunday July 27th at 1pm CST. I will be talking about the mod, and giving a sneak peak of the things we are doing. I will be there to play a sample of my work and to answer any questions and mingle with you guys. Come check it out!

As a result of this amazing turn of events, this page will no longer be nessisary. Head on over to the official AotR page: Moddb.com to recieve further info on the mod. Since I am now part of the SMG team, all of my work is going to be put into the official 2.6 AotR patch, and I will continue working with them to bring you guys the next step in AotR.

This is a pleasant surprise, I just recently dug up the 2.50 German version, and had to beg someone for the English 2.5 MasterTextFile that never really got published.

A couple questions though, are you planning on changing the strategy or GC map? I feel that was the best part of the mod, I've never seen another FoC mod that required as much strategic thinking as AotR does.

Also, will the changes to the Black Sun make them too dangerous? I feel Steiner gave them a disadvantage because the Black Sun isn't really a political entity, but more of an internal threat to the Empire and Alliance.

Finally, will you change the AI system? That external file system with the .bat that changes it has never been very reliable...

The original GC maps are going to stay, along with all the missions and tech systems. I am creating a new GC that has the exact same layout, but you only have 1-3 planets that you start from and random pirate forces scattered about. This GC will still have all the missions as well.

The Black Sun changes are being made to make them more fun to play. In the original, the problem was that the black sun had weak units, but they were also priced at similar levels to the other factions, meaning that when playing them you were totally screwed most of the time. Of course, they are never going to reach overpowered levels. Some of their units were really bad to use, in terms of costs and what you get for them. Many units had no abilities which made it not fun to use for the player. Also, a skiff squad had about the same costs as a t1b tank for the rebels, which made no sense. The new balance will be more centered around them still retaining the weakest units of the three factions, but have access to many of them. Sort of like a Zerg faction, where having a numbers advantage is key. This change really seems to be working out nicely even in its early stages.

The Bat system is going to be removed. It is unnecessary. Republic at War uses the same system as AotR for the AI, and they just tell you to rename the data folders when you want to play a different mod. A tutorial will be included to explain the system and the mod will be launched with a regular shortcut.
