One feather in PainKeep's hat was new maps.

Single player maps dont always make decent DM maps.
Try 2 or 3 players on e4m4 sometime. You spend most of your time just looking for someone to frag.

Pk1 came with a nice set of maps to explore. Most of them worked very well for 2 - 8 players. A nice feature was, often, a series of connected loops. If you had a tail, you could go different ways. Maps with multiple paths were also harder for a player on a low ping connection to dominate. Doesnt mean much now, but low ping was a big deal in the 90's.

Giza had an Egyptian theme complete with a pyramid and mock stargate.
Giving the appearance of going down under the pyramid, this map has a lost tomb feel to it. No kill traps to be found, but there are a few teleporter tricks.

I have made a maphack map "k7a" as a tribute to this, evolve and stargate.
Continuing the tradition as it were.
