Lambda Wars (formerly Half-Life 2: Wars) brings the struggle between the human resistance and their Combine overlords to a multiplayer real-time strategy setting. The Lambda Wars beta only requires Alien Swarm installed to play. It features 3 multiplayer game modes: Sandbox, Annihilation and Overrun, showcasing the Rebels and Combine playable factions and a full-fledged RTS interface and HUD. There is also a singleplayer tutorial and a handful of singleplayer missions.

The release is featuring two maps and most of the stuff you would expect in a rts game. Units can be recruited and resources are gained from control points. In later releases the mod will be expanded with base building, more units, worked out sides and multiplayer.

This release requires Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: episode one to play. Half-Life 2: Wars v0.1 can be downloaded from:

I like the concept of the game and I had fun with the tutorial.
There are however still some problems that need to be adressed.

- Turrets are knocked over really quick and can't be put back up again. They are not very usefull that way.
- Units are unresponsive. Sometimes they go off on their own and other times they just won't do what you tell them.
- It's hard to target an enemy unless they are standing still or moving slow.
- Seeing beyond the fog of war. Sometimes soldiers see and shoot from within or into the fog.
- Unresponsiveness when using abilities. A medic or engineer at times would not use their abilities when instructed to.
- When trying to heal someone with the medic, one has to click on the medic than the ability and then find the unit on the map. It would be easier if you could select the target using the UI. It migth be nice to give the medic be a bit more independence with healing by giving the choice to allow him to heal those near him.

I hope to hear more of this mod in the future. Keep up the good work.

not bad. I seemed to have some control issues though. I couldn't get the abilities to work consistently, maybe it was just me though. I tried about 50 times to drop a turret but it just didn't wanna work. Finally would get them to work randomly. And yes I had plenty of those points to build them. Anyway, cool idea, hope you make it to a finished release.

I created the hlw_sands map to try out some kind of larger map, to see how it runs. And two maps is better then one.

The map looked pretty fine except the antlions captured the flag way too fast.

Will you lot be releasing the source code for this, and if so, is it well commented?

If yes, I love you so much I could cry.

I'd really like to get into mapping for this, there's a lot of potential in this mod. With the next few patches I hope the majority of the bugs are fixed so you guys can work on content : D

Mod looks amazing except i can't get it to run :/. I guess it's not built for low-end engines, i get straight up crash every time i try to make a new game on either map.

Pretty fun, but some major control issues. The AI seemed to think it was smarter then me and would charge off on their own, usually to their death, and refused to listen to my commands until they had done whatever they wanted. The combine were especially stupid, whenever they needed to reload they would charge the nearest enemy and bash them at least once, even if they were across the map and invisible to me, then run off on a tangent to reload. Really hope you guys carry this through and fix it up a little bit, this seems like it could be really fun.

Excellent job. The core gameplay isn't fun yet, but the tutorial map is very cool and shows that there's potential. :) Some thoughts:
Put pinch point hint nodes in the tutorial house! They ought fix all of the pathfinding issues in there.
Let us interact with other soldiers from the UI. I have a medic and an injured soldier selected, but to heal them injured guy I need to hunt him down in the world. Clicking his button would be far easier.
Units will sometimes look up to the player (i.e. camera) if you zoom in far enough.
Turrets are horribly unstable and can't be picked up once they've fallen over.
Why do you have to set a direction for mines before they are planted? Also, the AI is too good at avoiding them.
Too many ragdolls! I couldn't even fix it with g_ragdoll_maxcount.
Soldiers can sometimes see further than the fog.
Looking forward to future releases! :)

213 gcf is episode one content, so you likely don't have episode one installed.

For the "Inspired by COH" post.

The HUD I made was inspired from Company of Heroes, yes. All in all my first prject where I made a HUD, so COH helped alot for reference.
Allthough I didnt want to go as far with that so it looked like the COH hud, so I went for the HL2 base colors instead of the usual Greyscale metal wich you see in many RTS games, so Orange and Grey made it HL2'ish!

Great to see so much positive feedback. Sander has worked on this unbelievably fast and made it good. Still minor bugs and some gamplay flaws, but intrest for the mod seems good, so Sander wont stop =P

Thanks

Just now I'm drawing out some concepts for base buildings and other RTS related and needed material. Thats what I can say about that matter, for what he wants to implent in the next release, is up to him.

I will throw in my suggestions and discuss with him what would be best.
But it's all up to the big boss! =P

I don't know if this is a common problem but I can't get the rebel engineer to build "AT ALL". He goes to the position and stands there...just waiting for something to happen. If at all possible please address the building stuff and add that for combine. On another note This is one of the best mods I have ever played for Half life 2. I would love to see this made into a full version. Keep up the good work!
