How to make your very first Source mod:

1.) Create a story set in the very far future involving Russians/Combine. Evil, baby-eating, nuke wielding Russians/Combine that don't do something that they actually did in reality/HL lore or or vice versa.

2.) Make the protagonist the player plays as a completely unique character that we have never seen portrayed in games forever, i.e. a special operations person of some kind fighting in a variety of battle locales against insurmountable odds to find a significant object of power to keep it out of the hands of the evil *insert original bad guys here, i.e. aliens or Russians here*.

3.) Borrow tons of content from other sites such as fpsbanana.com or garrysmod.org. The creators of this content wouldn't mind having their hard work being used by an aspiring mod creator. These include maps for your own original levels, weapons, HUDs, skins, etc.

4.) Zombies. No one ever uses zombies in a Source mod. EVER. It is the most original idea to date, and you should take advantage of this being an aspiring mod creator and all.

5.) Don't forget to add a rockin' multiplayer to your mod for when people are done ******' their pants over how awesome your campaign was and are hungry for more. This is relatively easy. Valve was kind enough to give us a template: HL2 DM! Just a few reskins here and there, couple of CSS maps from FPSBanana and you're good to go!

6.) When presenting your mod, make sure to make your descriptions with a laid back tone. No one likes neatly presented mods, because those feel uptight and restricted as we all know. Keep your grammar as poor as possible, to let people know that your mod is all about fun and relaxation through your writing's laid back tone. Remember to also depict some of your mod's scenes in some action packed Gmod stills. It's not the actual mod, but hey, it looks cool!

7.) Create your amazing logo for your rad mod. All the great modders use Paint for their logos, so go crazy with it.

8.) Ask for an incredibly ridiculous amount of work to be done for you. Don't worry, you'll give them credit, right?

9.) Let the mod inevitably die, because the mod community couldn't possibly deserve your masterpiece any less.

It would be a better story line if you make the CIA guys be working with Russian FSB & Spetznatz teams hunting leftist & or extremist trying to take control of Russians nuclear weapons. But make it so the CIA guys are treated as enemies at 1st since the Russians would have no idea why the CIA is poking around in Russian affairs.

The whole cloak & dagger conspiracy feel would be best for this mod. Just my 2 cent opinion but I hope it helps. Also DO NOT MIRROR THE WEAPON MODELS IT LOOKS AMATEURISH.
