Heart of Evil: Napalm Edition (HOE: NE) is a remake of the old mod Heart of Evil, a Vietnam themed war/survival horror FPS. The HOE NE Team hopes to help you relive that experience, or for those of you who haven't played it, a chance to try something new. They put a lot of work into the original concept and we want to it endure, for that reason we have updated the mod as best we can with graphics and gameplay.
After 2 years in development, Heart of Evil Napalm Edition is finally released to the public! Grab your flak jacket and M79, it's time to start shooting down helicopters onto on unsuspecting zombies...

After a long wait by members of the public (and the dev team) comes the release of Heart of Evil Napalm Edition! This mod is a total conversion for Half-Life, offering players the chance to dip into the crazy world of wartornzombieinfested Vietnam. A lot of work has gone into developing this mod, so we hope that you'll all enjoy it!
For players new to Heart of Evil, you are placed into the boots of Special Forces officer Captain Percy Freeman, who is tasked with despatching the villanous (and extremely mad) Colonel Kurtz. Not long after beginning your mission you are betrayed, and forced to find your way to Kurtz on foot.
Along your way you will have to deal with rogue US Soldiers - apparently they think you're a traitor, and have been tasked with hunting you down. Not only are there US Soldiers after you, but also Huey helicopters! These Helicopters are deadly since they have front gunners, side gunners, rocket launchers and the ability to drop off troops. You'll will need to carefully plan their movement around a Huey helicopter in order to take it out with an M79 or RPG-7!

After fighting your way past rogue US forces, you come up against the uglier side of war. Unkillable zombies! Or are they? Any sort of explosive will kill a zombie, anything less than that will knock them down momentarily.

Like the original Heart of Evil we have kept the vast free roaming environments, but we have made the puzzles within them more straightforward, so that backtracking is kept to a minimum. Objectives are clearly marked with glowing markers, and the levels are also considerably easier to navigate.
We would like to thank people who have been watching the mod so patiently - we hope this lives up to your expectations! Saddle up, lock and load and head into the world of Heart of Evil...

I like this mod a ton. Peeps need to get this out now. The hl mapping is very well crafted and you can tell there was effort. The only bug i noticed would have to be the random blacking out (unless blacking out when you walk into a corner is a dramatic effect). Great Job team regardless.

hey team napalm, I like the game alot.
But as i see it computers now days are just "to" fast to run goldsource games.
I get major skips all the time,even after i cap the frames.
Even though i cant play this, untill i get my pc thats been rusting in my closet working, looks great!
nah probably just the mod, try halflife or some other original game of the gldsrc engine and see if there's a difference. or running speed is increased.

I played the first version, and i got easily stuck because of all that damn backtracking. Now that it is not required anymore, the game is easier.

This remake mod is ****. It's riddled with so many memes and stupid **** it makes me want to vomit. The only thing good about this mod is that it's full of eyecandy but for some reason the guy in the loading room in the Alamo looks like he's got down syndrome. While playing singleplayer I tried getting in the back of the truck but I got stuck, then the truck started moving and I died. Then the game re-loaded and the guy who was supposed to drive me around was floating in midair, stuck. I had to restart about 3 times before getting anywhere. Not to mention the default controls are set as if we're still playing DOOM. The voiceacting is horribad also, and the General guy sounds ******* retarded. Great, I got stuck on Fatkin's desk because I hopped over the desk and the lady walked in and got me stuck, and now I'm stuck with Fatkins giving me a rimjob with his ******* lame lines.
At the real beginning of the game, when you're next to the helicopter, you can clip into the front of it.
You may want to play a bit more than the beginning of the game before judging the core aspects of the game itself. And also, how the heck is the voice acting bad? Which characters? The team had, like, 4 voice actors.

I'm not the only one who thought the mod was ****. And it's not like I was just like "LOL THIS MOD SUCKS MY ****" and left, I spent my time writing why I thought it sucked. There were TONS of bugs and errors with the mapping that I'm not sure if they were put in by accident or purposely added just to troll us. If not I seriously doubt they even played their own mod.
I would like to head some genuine reasons why you don't like the mod - the only things you've listed are minor things which don't even impact upon the gameplay.
The mod was extensively tested by beta testers, in fact I suggest you play the original HOE to see how few bugs there are in comparison. I would also like to know what these "tonnes" of errors were with the maps.
What the ****? Having to restart the game MULTIPLE times kind've puts a big impact on the game play there buddy. Not only that but I ran across a glitch further in the game where I had spawned from a quicksave, and I kept sliding in to a corner of a wall and getting stuck. I couldn't move, and grenades wouldn't free me. I used Noclip to try to get out, but all I did was levitate off the ground a little, and couldn't get out of the wall. I loaded a save that I did manually, and my game crashed. Everything got put back to default. All of my progress was gone. That is a big ******* deal to me.
Those are all issues related to the Half Life engine I'm afraid, I've had those bugs happen to me in Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift. So I don't see why you're laying into us about those problems.
Because I play HalfLife, Blue Shift, and Opposing Force on and off and I rarely run into any bugs. I also play a HalfLife mod called Svencoop a lot and rarely run into bugs on the simplest and cheapest maps. Every now and then I will admit I'll run into a bug that will kill me or get me trapped, but not NEARLY as often as it has happened in this mod.
Well you're the only person reporting these bugs, and from the sounds of things you're playing to glitch it. Seriously I don't know how you managed to achieve the bizarre effects you did, but none of those are the fault of this mod team.

You're commenting on minor bugs that are mostly caused by the Half-Life engine. You haven't actually experienced any gameplay, give the whole game a chance before you pass judgement.
As for the voice acting it isn't meant to be serious, and as such isn't meant to be taken seriously.
Desite the constant crashes and getting stuck on a part of the map every 5 seconds I DID try to play the game but the Barney glitch happened and I couldn't get anywhere.
Yeah, you bring up some good points that should be taken into consideration Lonewolf, BUT a little less of the nerd-rage will go a long away.
Maybe it's just me, but I found this one of the most frustrating games I ever played.

Early in the game in that part where two US soldiers were killed by an RPG, I picked up the M16 but then its missing and I can't fire.
I can't even bring up the weapon selection!
The player was not meant to have a weapon this early in the game, so it was forcibly removed in that section.
he change it now cuase back then you could so now you cant pick it up and go gun hoe.

Didn't like the remake, missing the best part where you're in the cage with barney's head and playing the scifi minigame.
Out of that the mapping is good, the game itself is enjoyable, but the few "lololo kkkk" things in the game took me out of the atmosphere for a few minutes.
Crashes 15 seconds after I start playing. Is that because I'm using a Non-Steam version?
Shouldn't be a problem, I'm using WON and it works perfectly. Do you have the latest WON patch?
Ahh this error. Unfortunately this probably means that your PC isn't powerful enough to play the mod - there are a lot of polygons rendered in this mod.
I used to find this when I was running a P3 and trying to play OP4 Redux =X It's frustrating because newer engines wouldn't crash out like this, even olde Quake 3 wouldn't crash so bad.
I'm stuck at the boathouse, I can't get barney to follow me to the boat so that I can continue. Please help. I've had noteably one other barney bug where I couldn't get him to follow me after I try to exit the hangar with the soldiers in it to the outside he gets stuck on the stairs and refuses to follow me. I need 1 of 2 things: 1) a patch, or 2) a spawn npc_barney command (because I don't know what the actual command is. Thanks guys! The game is freaking awesome I love it! Only I'm stuck so a patch for reported bugs pr something soon. Thanks. Amazing mod.
