Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.

Report RSS Summer Assurances

We understand we've been quite comatose over the last few months, but our schedules have cleared up enough to get back to work.

Posted by on

We apologise for our lack of updates recently, those who follow our responses to comments will know the whole team have been bogged down in rather sticky exams, and we know you understand how priorities work in these situations.

We promise that this summer will be full of new content and progress, and hopefully we'll have a beta out by around Halloween at the latest.

As a teaser of the work to come, we present you with the new Covenant Picket ship:

Designed as a light combat ship roughly equivelant in size to a UNSC Frigate, the Picket boasts a powerful sensors and communications arrays with modest weaponry and a single powerful repulsar engine and act as a patrol or scout ship available early to the Covenant.

You know there's a corvette sized cruiser that was glimpsed in the Reach premiere? That would be good too :)

I like this design, i'm not suggesting to replace it which the corvetter from Reach!

We decided to treat Reach largely as we treat Halowars, far too much retcon and new none-sensical additions to be considered canon for the most part.

I can understand Halo Wars but since Reach is from Bungie (no matter how much you want to deny it) Reach IS Canon.

Look at it more in the way of the books didn't tell the whole story of Reach. Which makes sense. If the story was told from every point of view it would be to hard to tell at once.

It kind of like rediscovering lost facts about previous Real-Life wars that no-one knew about until new evidence presented itself.

Anyway on the Pickett, I don't think it fits the general flowing aesthetic of the Covenant (bit too blocky and UNSC like in places) Otherwise I'll reserve some judgement until its textured.

The story isn't what bothers us, even the new weapons don't really bother us, but what does bother us is the random inclusion of a space-jet fighter with shields and the random curved frill on the bottom of the Covenant ship which seems to be there for the sake of looking fancy.

That seems like some fairly simpleminded reasons to discard the reasons for its canon.

Considering the fact that the UNSC began experimenting with captured shield technology since they first encountered the Covenant, its not too hard to believe about a prototype with the shielding. The Jet fighter is most likely NOT a jet fighter by any means. The longsword uses a similar propulsion system and so does the pelican, its obvious their "Jet" engines are far more advanced than our own and can function in little or no oxygen.

In the case of the Covenant ship, It could be a completely different variant of a ship that already exists. In the most likely case though when graphics in games get better (even with established canon) things tend to get "fancier" and more detailed. Thats just how it is.

I feel like I'm kind of coming out as a bad guy here, but I do really wish this mod to succeed since I was working on something similar a VERY long time ago.

Mjolnir shielding (and even bubble shielding) is understandable, the UNSC had a massive boost in shield and mini-battery/reactor tech when they reverse engineered Covenant infantry shielding, they've had far less success with capturing larger examples of such technology, a project to equip a space-fighter with the same sort of shielding as mjolnir would have cost about as much as the mjolnir project it's self cost, and it's becoming a bit ridiculous that the UNSC have gone from a few covert special projects in the early canon to a managerie of super-secret projects that apparently aren't so secret as soon as bungie decide to include them in a game, at which point no one bats an eye lid.

The point about things becoming frillier because of new technology is moot, it's not that it looks better or shinier, it's that it has a design with a large feature which seems to be there for the sake of being there, where as earlier designs held a very nice balance between typical alien vanity and sleekness with utility.

You feel like coming out like a bad guy because the way you made your points sounded almost like youre trying to tell the staff how to do their work rather than pointing at something which may be coming out better handled another way.
Your message was "What Bungie says IS Canon - deal with it!". While in fact it is up to the Mod-crew to decide what they want to treat as canon and what not.

This is not meant as an offense, but a hint on why you may be feeling like coming out bad.

...The curved bit?

It looks more like a Covenant ship rather than an UNSC frigate, due to the curved parts on top of the ship

Yeah...It says equivelant to a UNSC frigate, as in it's the Covenant's closest thing in terms of weaponry and size.

This looks great, you are making good progress!

And as a tip, to gain support and people wanting to help, maybe release an Alpha version when you've gotten a few ships on each side ready?

Btw.. i made an account on MODDB Just to follow this project xD
