Funky update

I guess it's time to post something.

New leadership:

As you probably already now, I'm a new leader of Half-Life: Update mod. If you didn't knew and you're confused, then check last post ( Moddb.com ) So, first of all; I didn't want to talk about myself and how I will behave, but since the last update-news my moddb PM-inbox was already spammed with messages and majority of them were unpleasant ones. Oh well I guess toxic behavior of kids and trolls from moddb will never change. Anyways I want to make one thing straight, I will stay friendly and polite to people who are also friendly and polite, but I will have no mercy for trolls and butthurt kiddos. Previous leader was like a calmest person on earth and ignored most of the hateful stuff, but I will not. You still can post positive and negative feedback and suggestions as long as you behave like an adult, any other messages (including death threats and comments build with more curses than other words) will be filtered right away.

Next update and release:

The most important info; The next release won't include Opposing Force support. There's a lot other stuff to do (and fix) before we can start working on OF. The next build should include Closed Caption support, improved method of loading multiple language files and a lot of fixes and smaller additions. I can't give you any exact ETA on the release, but it should be somewhere in the next month. Aside from code work, I will be updating articles page with new FAQ info and tutorials (e.g. how to translate the mod).

Looking at my news-post now, it sounds like I'm bashing the whole moddb with: "Oh well I guess toxic behavior of kids and trolls from moddb will never change." sentence. Sorry I didn't mean it like that. There are just all sorts of people on the whole internet :P In every site/community there are also trolls and little butthurt kiddos. Moddb is not different, there are both nice people here and furious kids that can go ape-shit crazy about "no" or "soon" replies.

Based on the name change that occurred a while back, I get the impression that this mod's goal has been extended past adding subtitles and includes fixing minor issues with the game in general. If this is indeed the case, I have some random suggestions:

1) Make it so that the MP5 of both the player and enemies will leave a bullet hole decal for every bullet fired rather than every other bullet fired.

2) Add a sound effect for the long jump module.

3) Add simple effects for when bullets hit water, when the player jumps in water, when the player swims, ect.

4) Make HEV batteries produce light.

5) Make muzzle flashes produce light.

6) Add fake physics to crossbow bolts as they travel through the air.

7) Allow the player to pick up deployed satchels with "E", which would removed them and add one back to the amount in your inventory (no idea if this is possible).

8) Make it so that the alt-fire projectiles for the hivehand and the gluon gun's beam create decals and/or particle effects when hitting walls.

9) Make it so that killing zombies with anything other than a headshot or explosion will spawn a headcrab, similar to how Half-Life 2 does it. To go the full nine yards, you could possibly even modify some of the death animations to show the headcrab popping off.

I'm sure that at least some of these sit outside the scope of the mod's goals, but I've included them anyway for no particular reason. I'm perfectly fine with both you using all of these or not using any. It's quite possible I got a some of these ideas from other mods I've played long ago without realizing it, so you certainly don't need to credit me in any way if you do decide to use any. With all that said, the mod is coming along wonderfully so far. Keep up the great work!

6. By Fake physics you mean bolt falling down after certain point? Dunno about that. Half-Life is rather old-school game with old-school gameplay rules I don't want to add too much realism in it.

7. I'll try to do something like that, no promises tho.

9. I would like to do that, however I'm not an 3d artist nor animator. I can code that, but I need someone to make model edits.

Wow, I am incredibly impressed at how many of these things are already in the mod. I haven't been able to download the newer versions because I've had 20 gigabytes of less of space left on my hard drive since a few months ago. I'm not really able to download any mods until I get a new hard drive, and now I really feel like I've missed out.

The only thing I really have left to say is that number 6 is less of a realism change, and more of a change based off of the fact that both HL2's crossbow and Half-Life: Source's had bullet drop.

Honestly, I'm blown away. I'm more hyped for this mod than ever knowing that it already has so many features.

Will this mod work on the Steam version? Because I have all Half-Life games on Steam and I don't have original releases.

It already works with every version of Half-Life. You can get latest alpha from download page. Download it and read readme.txt how to install it.
