In 2013 this was a privately tested version of the G-String project.
Copyrighted music and old intro has been removed. YouTube videos CAN be made of this release without altering any of the files.
Playing this will NOT SPOIL the final release as this was made before the project was overhauled.
This is NOT the final release and it is NOT indicative of how the final release will look/play. This is just a slightly more polished version of the BETA that includes a few extra concepts such as the air refinery and the spaceport. If you want to see where all this started check out the original 2011 release.
Extract G_String_Day_One.rar to your steam\steamapps\sourcemods folder and restart Steam. It will NOT overwrite the G String BETA or the upcoming final "G String" release. It will extract into a new folder called "GstringV2".
G STRING - DAY ONE FEATURES
⦁ Some new post processing shaders.
⦁ Early new menu design.
⦁ Lens flares.
⦁ Multiple overlays.
⦁ You can toggle the cinematic bars and grain/custom FX.
⦁ Rudimentary subtitles.
⦁ A few next textures and maps- (40 maps total.)
⦁ Beta maps polished until the red light district fights- (soon after the crater).
⦁ Early versions of the Murdock Air Refinery and Kennedy Spaceport.
⦁ A few new characters added like Riley Verge.
⦁ A few new sound/dialog/music files.
At this point I just planned to update the BETA with the existing assets. After I got feedback from this release the decision to overhaul the entire project was made. This means:
⦁ No self awareness model.
⦁ No gibbing.
⦁ No DOF.
⦁ No special key for the pyrokinesis (works same as BETA).
⦁ No new HUD.
⦁ No night-vision.
⦁ Interplanetary Trade Center twin towers are seen but not explored.
⦁ No space fights.
⦁ No new props.
⦁ No particles.
⦁ No final story.
G STRING - DAY ONE KNOWN BUGS
⦁ The crosshair disappears over some NPCs in Easy Mode.
⦁ Mod might crash during the transition from "the_criminal_2.bsp" to "the_crossing_part1.bsp".
⦁ Sometimes the fireball sprites don't look right underwater.
⦁ Selfillum "hologram" textures glow too bright when illuminated by flashlight.
⦁ Fireball casting related crashes might happen only on source sdk 2007. If you have those issues make sure you use source sdk 2006 (steamID 215) in the gameinfo.

If this is the same as the 2013 release then all of you should know that although there are new locations but there are also a lot of maps missing compared to "beta"!
So you should see this not a refined beta but a different beta altogether!

So yes I still see it as "refined beta". Literally called that.
My point was that if you play only the new version then you miss a lot of content the first beta has.
I thought new players should know that, that's all.
That's a fair point. I guess I'll play both after all.
Did they cut the river section? Painful or not it's the most memorable part of the original beta.
If you mean the part where you have to stand on a plank to get the other side then no that's still there.
My main regret is that my stupid PC can't handle memory-intensive (as in, titles that usually require a 100%-condition PC in order to not lag horribly of course) titles like this atm since it's been like that ever since the end of 2016 unfortunately.
Regardless, I am still very much happy about this. I really am...! ^-^

Eyaura, I have to tell you that the original version of G String is absolutely one of my favorite mods of Half Life. However, with G String Day One even with the few minor glitches, you have surpassed the first version by an order of magnitude! I hope the final version is more like Day One than the original. You have created a Masterpiece...
It reminds me of the Blade Runner world but even more decayed and polluted.

Eyaura! So I want just make a few comments. My previous comments were based on playing in Medium. I did a replay on Hard. The map were after you get through air processing plant and your on top of the skyscrapers making your way over the planks, boards and makeshift walkways (SUPER!) and you get to that heavy cannon with the two dead rebels (?) and you have to fight the police gunship, I CAN'T get through there no matter what I try. That's it, the game blocks my progress there.
Since you disabled the cheats, the game is over for me. One last thing, the jumping sequences, both Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 IMHO suck at any kind of jumping. The engine does not lend itself to jumping. That's it. It is still a beautiful work of Art but on Hard that's as far as I can get.
ADDENDUM: I just found out that I can drop down in difficulty mid-game in Half Life! YEARS playing this game and I just find this out. OK, so I got past the gunship and went back up to Hard. My only complaint now (nitpicking time) is that your opponents become bullet sponges... LOL. All in all I look forward to a release on Steam. Great work me lass!
This version does not work for me normally. It starts up, a pure black screen, there is sound, but there is no picture. Maybe you need to use a different Source SDK Base to run? The first version went great
Yes. This version work on Steam with Source SDK Base 2006.I try to test this mod later
Which one do you recomend I Download? The original Beta or the latest update? Should I download them both?
I'll play the finished payed steam version first, then ill play this one and then the 2011 beta version, so i can see all the differences and what got changed
