Yeah, bashed like all the other Star Wars mods? Might wanna go check up on some of these "bashed" mods. Lucas Arts doesn't mind as long as it's non-profit and such.

Great job on the models too!

Nice models and all....but why do you waste your time on another starwars-MOD that will get bashed by Lucas? Dont you think you could do better things with your life? Instead of ripping off Starwars you should go and design something on your own.

Read this and try to understand what is written there: Moddb.com

Perhaps we wish too, perhaps thats why we want too. Its non-profit and purely for the love of it. We arent referencing any main characters and we would like to create something. As a Team none of us have been in modding before so thats it really just for fun and the challenge :)

Sn4tcH: I wonder why you are under the impression that Lucas Arts doesn't mind non-profit projects based on Starwars. Tell me where you have picked that up. Please note that the Troopers modification for Ut2k3 was only accepted AFTER the devs had a very long talk to Lucas Arts. That doesnt make it legal for anyone to create a Starwars themed project now.

I know what is like to burn years into a project noone will ever see. In the end it's no more fun.

Ok guys, on FirstStrike we now have one of the Developers and instigators for Galactic Conquest for BF1942 on board. We would not be persueing this if he wasnt au fait with the legalities of it.

I dont think lucasarts is Blizzard in its attitude towards mods...
I havent heard of any mod being shut down by lucas ( maybe there are, but its a rarity), while Blizzard shuts everything down ( even commercial games ) for something so small as "this unit looks like a hydralisk".
Considering Blizzard got extremely "inspired", hehe, by Tolkien's work....which makes it all the more idiotic...

Modding a movie or commercial game with a theme from another game, is only free promo. If you make a kickass Star Wars mod, and somebody goes to google and types "Star Wars" then Lucas stuff comes up..

only a matter of time before Lucas Arts see this mod, they are probably preparing a legal case right now. In the last 5 years i have seen a lot of Star Wars mods all shut down. Believe me, Lucas Arts do not accept mod'ing if they are making star wars games for cash.

sorry, to clear things up, i am not trying to smash your dream but please read the moddb.com statement regarding copyright infringment, seeing as you must not have even considered this if the mod is still running. i believe you need to get permission BEFORE you start making it, or they will really get ******.

"I won't pretend to be a lawyer, or even to know all the details of what I'm talking about. Even so, being a modder for a few years can give an insight into what you can get away with.

So lets begin.

Firstly your mod is probably (although not always) illegal if:
It can be played without buying the original game.

You try to sell it or profit from it.

You have ripped someone's work without permission.

The mod is based on a book without the author's permission.

The mod is based on a film or series without permission of the studio/company who made it."
