Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

This actually makes a lot of sense, as titans are just that large, sometimes larger than orbital structures, and they are not that maneuverable.

Honestly, this has always bothered me and I'm glad someone finally decided to fix it.

Description

As many of you are probably aware, Sins got a big update this week with version 1.9. Along with making Large Address Aware enabled by default (don't turn it on yourselves anymore!) and other performance and graphics improvements, the devs added some changes to help modders like myself out. Among these was the ability for antistructure cruisers to no longer be forced to only attack structures.

In vanilla Sins, antistructure cruisers like the TEC Ogrov will still only attack planet modules and starbases. In E4X however, the next update will enable them to attack any normal target. In addition to space stations, antistructure cruisers will deal good damage to titans, which hopefully will serve to make these underused units more viable, as well as somewhat reduce the power of titans, which can still be somewhat hard to counter.

Against other units, antistructure units are okay against capitalships but quickly deal less damage the smaller the target is. Against corvettes and small frigates they do 10% or less of their displayed damage.

This change is a bit experimental so it is quite likely the exact damage numbers will change after release, but hopefully the general direction of this change will be very positive.

Of course, E4X will also be updated to fix the minor string bugs and other trivial issues caused by the 1.9 patch, but for now it should be quite playable without an update.
