Hi everyone, as promised, we are releasing yet another version of Contra mod.
A year has passed by since the last beta version, and we made a lot of changes. As usual we have made many new things for you guys to discover and enjoy. Improved old and bad things, fixed bugs, and added new stuff for you to play with. Two brand new Challenge maps are available: Demolition and Flame.

Before actual download link, there are few new visual improvements to show, so let's start.

USA Laser Avenger tank

Old Avenger model got replaced with new one, but it is not just visual update. New Avenger has only one weapon, which is of course anti air, but he got new hybrid armor. Armor which is resistant to RPG missiles more than usual AA unit, and also resistant to Jet Missiles. You could say, it is combination of regular tank, and anti-air tank.

USA Air Force's Black Hawk

In order to balance generals' powers, we did some changes there too. So Air Force general's Shockwave Bomb is removed, and replaced with SEAL drop. SEALs are dropped by 3 stealth Black Hawks, which are very well armored too. This power is available at rank 5.

USA Air Force's Navy SEAL

So as explained above, SEALs are dropped by stealth Black Hawks. All together 9 Seals, very well armored and equipped with M32 grenade launcher effective vs all ground targets. They come as a good support, or ambush attack from behind. In future, SEALs will get the ability to swim, and place explosive charges on structures. They are also stealth while not moving or shooting.

GLA Toxin Pump

GLA Toxin general's demo traps are replaced with toxin pumps now. This nice little thing can spill both toxin and acid (despite of the name) around itself and damage nearby units. It is manually controlled. Acid damages pump and destroys it, but if you purchase Neutralizers upgrade at rank 3, pump won't damage itself anymore. Of course, both toxin and acid can be even more upgraded to bring more damage. Plant those things on map, pollute everything and enjoy watching your enemy dying slowly. Toxin pump is stealth, and can be destroyed by any unit.

Last but definitely not least, is improvement on GLA structures. PredatorBG took some time to improve GLA textures, and with this, all structures look much better.

No more yellow boring walls, now we have nice looking bricks.

Before you download and start playing, please read these most important gameplay changes, and avoid unpleasant surprises :D

  • all USA Valanx units now come with already upgraded TOW (but nerfed) weapons
  • all USA Valanx units passengers cannot fire from inside anymore
  • all USA Laser generals units, can go through rampage from game start, meaning, they upgrade lasers individually with experience
  • all GLA tunnels no longer have a mounted weapon, and don't give free tunnel defenders, but they are much cheaper and built very fast
  • all GLA command trucks are limited to 1
  • you can reach rank 6 now, which gives you additional 3 science points which you can spend on your general's powers

And a few more final words, about our future plans. So next release will be Contra 009 FINAL. Which will have some finished things from this version, and fixed bugs. This 009 Beta 2 is almost as complete as 009 FINAL would be, but we decided to release it under beta code name, in order to give you guys something for holidays. We plan to release 009 FINAL in 2017, if our RL goes as planned.

Those Navy SEAL models look more like SWAT, I'd recommend a different color scheme for them.

Air's carpet bombing still has unupgrated icon after upgrading in command center (rank 5 building).

And by the way, could you enlarge the radius of target lock for guarding option. Stupid case - when enemy's AA unit is attacking your units when they keep guarding area with no reaction.

Well, that would make it too easy for the aircraft to avoid anti-air. Try not to leave your aircraft unguarded. Have some units scout the area before entering it.

There are still no 009 Beta 2 videos. Persun's online tests and Flame Challenge gameplay are closest to what you are searching for. The version was just released. However, you can download our replays from yesterday here: Discordapp.com

I think his point was that if you set planes to guard an area, AA vehicles can get within planes sight range to shoot them down without the planes reacting, which is silly, even if they can't strike first, they should retaliate, otherwise they should be able to strike first, I've often seen them just flying in circles while being shot at.

Seems like 1-star power should be avaliable at rank 1.
I mean only logical aspect. Power menu contains 3 sections, called: 1 star, 3 star, 5 star.

This bug is so annoying. The AI will sometimes build Arms Dealer as it should, sometimes after a while, sometimes won't even build it. And there is nothing in scripts indicating what is causing it.

SW's built barracks, power, war factory and supply center. Then staying at base with no defensive structures (absolutely!!!). No airfield, no tomahawk.

Air general's hard to play...
1)Don't you think that minigunners shouldn't attack air units? There's nothing to deal with them. Air has only Pave Low (yes, it's good vs infantry) BUT minigunners're good vs him too!
2) There's no sense in "Frog Missile" for F-18, cause at rank 3 Air gets F-35, that're much better. Without this upgrade F-18're rather useless in combat.
3) The conception of Air is specific: all his power is based on aircraft, but aircraft is easily to defeat with AA units. And there's almost no air units that're good vs AA units.

In other words. When enemy brings AA into combat - my game becomes lost.
Yes...coyotes, their task is to destroy AA, but it's impossible when enemy's attacking in mixed formation.

We are not experiencing heavy balance issues with Air Force. F-35 is now more effective (vs. infantry too), but Hornets are very precise, so they are also a good choice depending on the situation. You should join us in multiplayer sometime. We arrange 1v1 and 2v2s every day. Play with us.

Air Force is a support general and he is harder to play in 1v1 matches because a few mistakes can lead to loss. It is crucial to attack early and cripple enemy economy. Air Force must not allow his enemy to gain strength.

What do you suggest in order to make Air Force more balanced in all situations, but not overpowered? Again, it is hard to balance a mod with just a few words said and a few stats changed. Generals are much more diverse than in the original game. This the place where we hang out: Discordapp.com

The general I can defeat is Toxin, he doesn't build AA units (at least at rank 1) (excepting for scouting, but they still doesn't attack air in some reason). Bit this is about AI fixing.

At least I suggest to return so-called frog-missiles effect to F-18 at rank 1, cause this solves the problem of firepower wasting.

F-16's mechanics is bugged. Sometimes it can launch missiles from long range (with no "Eye"), sometimes it comes under AA fire.
F-18 're useless withiut frog-effect. Their task is to destroy the more vehicles they can.
I think that Air's invisibility (excepting helicopters) should be permanent (like Wyvern has, cause there's almost no sence in simple invisibility - they attack, they revealed, they crahed by plenty of AA.
Probably Air needs tank 1 tank (better than coyote).
Probably he needs rank 2 base defence structure, better than colossus (something like сepheus or art battery).

PS
Don't think this is realizable, but it would be better to creaty fire priority system for guarding mod. So I mean that airplanes should detect AA targets to attack first while ordered to guard an area.

for some reasons the game still crash in the middle of the battle and gives me stuck massage in the error file at documents

I am having serious trouble running this, the launcher opens and when I hit launch it gives me the option to play either generals or ZH. I'm on Origin and have installed it correctly, not a noob to modding but can't get my head around it. I have the ultimate collection launchers as well, is it not compatible with Windows 10 maybe? Any help would be appreciated

you need to do the manual installation:

Manual installation instructions for those having problems with launcher:
I want to emphasize that for these steps you MUST NOT use the Contra Launcher. Many people don't read carefully and fail to install the mod.
1. Put all files from Contra009Beta2 into your Zero Hour folder (NOT the one in My Documents).
2. Rename !Contra009Beta2.ctr to !Contra009Beta2.big.
3. Rename !Contra009Beta2EN.ctr to !Contra009Beta2EN.big OR rename !Contra009Beta2RU.ctr to !Contra009Beta2RU.big if you want Russian language.
4. Rename !Contra009Beta2VOrig.ctr to !Contra009Beta2VOrig.big OR rename !Contra009Beta2VLoc.ctr to !Contra009Beta2VLoc.big if you want English unit voices.
5. Rename !Contra009Beta2MNew.ctr to !Contra009Beta2MNew.big OR rename !Contra009Beta2MStandard.ctr to !Contra009Beta2MStandard.big if you want vanilla soundtracks.
6. Rename Scripts folder to Scripts1 (which is located inside Data folder).
7. Start the game from generals.exe (NOT Contra Launcher.exe)!
And for those playing Zero Hour on Origin (C&C: The Ultimate Collection):
Download the Fixed Launchers from: Bibber.eu (alternative links: Mega.nz ; Mediafire.com)
Zero Hour version 1.04 is required!

When you have done this, open origin and start generals and ZH as normal. choose the ZH option and then contra should start up after a while. If this doesn't work, you have to ask the contra team.

I've done everything above and still it just runs vanilla ZH, I've had ROTR, Untitled and Shockwave before without any issues, pity because this looks like a beast of a mod

I should have said that I meant camo netting for buildings
even other GLA Generals don't have this upgrade for defense towers.
I'm a huge fan of contra so I hope I'll get this fixed.

All Stealth general buildings can be upgraded with Camo Netting. Select a building and post a screenshot. I'm curious.
