Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
This looks better than doom 3 did back when it was released! :D Awesome job guys, It will be nice to return to Black Mesa in the source engine. :)
Source has always looked better than idTech 4.

But not better Unreal Engine 3
Yes, it has.
Unreal Engine 3.0 has a "Plastic" look about it, fake, un real.
Source has always focused on photo realism, giving it a more authentic look.
At times, I've seen locations in Source I could confuse with real life pictures. Never so in Id Tech 4 or the Unreal 3.0 Engine.
Engines don't have plastic looks about them. That's up to the people that build the shaders. Yes, there are lots of UE3 games with ****** shaders, but that's not up to the engine.
well each engine has its ups and downs.
thing is, the Source is most adaptable, any genre of game can be made on it. not so much id tech.
but...on contrary; id tech engines hand lighting and shadows alot better than source engine. but u also have to realize, id tech 4 is just modified id tech.
and to add... id tech 4vs source. lets do half life vs prey. (PREY 2 coming soon yey and that uses id tech 4)
now what i'd like to see, is the source engine be able to go to higher capabilities not so much models, but the texture packing. even on highest settings with HDR i can still count pixels; compared to ID tech 5 or the crysis 2 engine (not really fair fight then...) but just some input from a Id Tech fan Peace. and the Cryengine beats both with water.
dont matter, either engine makes a "GETCHA PULL" reaction to every release.
Source is like the doctor, it will never die.

Why the hell was this karma'd down?
The only reason you can count pixels in the source engine is because the textures used in that game is small enough for you to do that. as long as your computer can take it, it will take it. For the Source engine you can make custom shadesr, wich could(if made correctly) beat Cryengine 2(the gameengine of Crysis 2).
Same with Havok and CryEngine they focus in realism not plasticness
get out here...source never gets old
Wow particles are amazing! Uber awesome!
Too damn awesome. Nice work.
Nice fire effects!
BURN MOTHERF**KER!!
bloody excellent lighting effects!
You get to choose whether to burn, electrocute or gas the AGrunt in there!
...nazi bastard...
oh **** here sparks engine wars oh mah god please shoot me now.
btw dont fight about the engines. All of them came from the only mother engine (Havok) Except CryEngine and id tech,so eat that sherlock
