Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
That's going to seal HL:source's faith.
GREAT JOB SO FAR, GUYS!!!
The shadow from upper lattice doesn't touch a houndeye. That's interesting :)
That's because of how the Source engine version they used in that screenshot did not have true dynamic lighting, instead, prior Orange Box, and partly still in Orange Box, all shadows cast by parts of the map itself do not cast onto objects, and becomes a filter rendered on top of other parts of the map. As soon as an object immersed itself entirely in a shadow it became as dark as the shadow, and that houndeye isn't fully immersed, so it remains the same as it was.
Wow, that was big.
Awesome. You, did a very good job on re-doing the Houndeye. Is that your MP5 model too?
I'm hot for houndeye
houndeye's back looks a bit plain from this angle
i was about to say that. i also noticed the shadows dont touch the player at all too. there was another comment on some different pic of this area suggesting that the shadows were part of the textures on the ground, because he couldnt find an explanation for the accurate shadowing of the grates. id like to see a reply about these types of things from the dev. team, but its possible that shadows on models werent enabled in these screens. if that were the case, id like to have the option of shadowing over models ingame :)
i read somewhere that it was a combination of mad leet mapping, log assed compilation times, and dangerously low lightmaps. I don't really care abou the shadows not showing up on models. Imperfections to the engine stay true to the roots of the first HL. :D
One of the mappers said it was done with brushes textured with the lightblocking texture and really low lightmap resolutions.
Compile time must've been hell.
AWESOME! if all models are like this (havent seen all pics) then i would go buy and install half-life 2! (not just for models though but also for gameplay) handy for people who have never played HL 1 but do have HL 2
The shadows in this picture were created with the use of lightblock texturised brushes, built to match the texture, and a lightmap scale of 1.

I love that MP5, I will have a tough time deciding whether to use this or the m4.
Looks amazing.
Although, I dunno if it's just this screenshot in particular, but the Houndeye's eye array looks a little flat.
The rest of it is just awesome though.
I hope that weapon sight is usable other then looking pretty
