for those of you who've already downloaded the "Gizmotron" mod you'll know what this is. but I wanted to post a screen shot of this new special op in action. Counter Battery Fire works on the same principle as the Communist Purge-- certain unit properties are singled out for complete destruction. On this map my Japanese infantry are getting mauled by Marine infantry backed up by artillery tanks. so I unleashed this special op on the enemy to instantly wipe out eight of his artillery tanks to give my routing infantry a chance to escape.
this is special op is the perfect antidote to artillery tank spam!
Wait in the pacific theatre all infantry are replaced by marines? :D looks like it :P
for some reason General Bradly REALLY liked recruiting Marines. I think it's because the Marine tent allows the AI to recruit regiments with tanks and infantry. this allows them to bypass the convoluted Infantry -> Mech -> Armor build order. the downside to this is that you'll never be able to deploy Heavy Tanks or the more powerful artillery units.
this strategy works really well against Japan and in defensive battles against most other countries after you've stolen every city on the map-- but it's not going to help you win against a full-powered German mechanized or armored assault. the Marine mixed infantry/armor regiments eventually crumble before the upgraded German panzers. they really need airpower to prevail in that scenario.
Err Question, Can you take a marine (m1 garand) and give him a machine gun? or possibly reskin the marchinegunners and officers? it feels wrong to have army officers leading marines with army gunners :P
nice AI :P
What?
it's funny that you mention this because last night I was looking into new skin possibilities for the Marines. I would try to give the US Marines the camo pattern that got used in the Pacific. (helps set them apart from the generic green uniforms of army-based units).
I had considered this last fall, before releasing the Gizmotron mod-- but felt like it had to wait for a later time.
