AtmosFear 3

AtmosFear 3 is a mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call Of Pripyat that tweaks and expands the vanilla weather system to be more realistic and various.

  • 7 dynamic weather cycles
  • Accurate sun position
  • Longer nights with the real moon that changes the phases.
  • Full weather cycle for Jupiter Underground
  • Increased vision distances
  • Altered weather behaviour
  • Different weather balance graphs for each area
  • 140+ new photorealistic sky textures
  • AtmosFear: Blowout - reworked blowout sequence
  • AtmosFear: Fallout - deadly radioactive and acidic fallouts occur in the Zone
  • AtmosFear: Psi Storm - new kind of weather anomaly that is very dangerous to unequipped stalkers.
  • Dynamic depth of field (DOF)
  • Optional high-resolution texture pack
  • Included option pack with various tonal range, night brightness, weather periods length and balance settings
  • Ambient Audio Overhaul Core by imperialreign
  • In game weather, event, night and other settings

3 additional dynamic weather cycles has been added to 4 existing in vanilla version. Also a full weather cycle has been created for Jupiter Underground.

The vision distances for some weather cycles has been increased (and reduced for other) so on a clear day you can now see almost across the whole area.

The weather behaviour has been altered.
There are now 2 main weathers cycles, good and bad. They change in 2h - 8h periods depending on the area. The weather still changes from hour to hour within each period.

Different weather balance graphs for each area have been implemented.
Zaton is often foggy as it is a swamp like area. Jupiter is mostly clear with more storms. Pripyat is rainy and stormy so don't expect much sun there.

Over 140 new photorealistic sky textures has been rendered for that mod.

The sun has accurate position accorting to the geographical (Chernobyl location) and astronomical (as for 15 Aug) data.

The night are longer and they are lit by the real moon that casts dynamic shadows and canges its phases

AtmosFear: Blowout
The mod replaces vanilla blowout sequence making blowouts dark and gloomy, showing strange atmospherical phenomena similar to aurora borealis (northern lights) due to high level of ionizing radiation. Particle waves sweeping across the area. New sound and environment effects created by imperialreign has been implemented. Various NPCs fate after blowout (those not in the cover). Various blowout warnings.

AtmosFear: Fallout
The Zone is now even more hostile as radioactive and acidic fallouts occur from time to time. They can cause significant damage if player caught in the open without decent protection from armor, artifacts or drugs. The nearest cover is shown on the minimap when radiation or biohazard levels become deadly. Acidic fallout very quickly degrades the armor/helmets.

AtmosFear: Psi Storm
Psi storms are the new kind of weather anomaly that is very dangerous to unequipped stalkers. Psi radiation cumulates in vortexes which generate high psi levels when they discharge. Decent armor/drugs protection reduces the mind damage but the vortexes are still dangerous as they generate hi-voltage electrostatic damage in close distance. Vortexes could spawn artefacts (although possibility to spawn is quite low - 5%) so after the psi storm don't forget to sweep the area with your detector.

THIS MOD IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH COMPLETE COP!

Just run installer like for AtmosFear. AF3 and AN3 (full) are compatible but may conflict with Arsenal. If so I recommend using AN3 Lite

Good day.

I am experiencing a blinking screen with AF3. I tried both standard and hi-res textures, tried decreasing SSAO and some other settings, but the problem still persists. It looks as if screen becomes black for several milliseconds and then picture returns. At the same time the game feels very smooth and there appear to be no FPS issues. My specs:
CPU i7 2600, 3.4 GHz
8 GB RAM
GPU Nvidia GTX 580 1.5 Gb VRAM
CoP 1.6.02, no other mods except AF3
I wonder whether this glitch is a sign of GPU overload and what settings should I look at in the first turn.
As a side note - vanilla CoP runs smoothly on my system with all settings maximized.
Thank you very much beforehand.

It may be a sign of GPU oveload. You don't experience that on vanilla because it has 3-4 times lower vision distance than AF3, hence a lot less to render. Try to lover vision distance and/or object quality in options. Still, your GPU is more than capable of running AF3 in full. I've created it on old 8800 GT and it was running fine.
Also try to update the GPU drivers (or downgrade) as there may be a driver issue.

Thank you, CrommCruac. It was a GPU driver issue indeed. I updated it to the latest vers. and now I can play AF3 with hi-res textures + Absolute Nature + Absolute Structures at max settings with smooth FPS. CoP is so different and so beautiful now. And I feel a touch of Lost Alpha in it ;-)
Thank you for your great work here in CoP and there in LA.

It's actually oposite. LA has a touch of AF :)
AF3 has been released years before LA

By saying "Accurate Sun Position" does that mean the point where Pripyat in real life is by our perspective? Because that would be amazing.

Yes, the sun position, sunrise and sunsets are based on astronomical data specific for Chernobyl geographical location.

First of all I'd just like to thank you for your efforts with this mod.

However, I have one massive gripe with it. Where have the sound effects gone when it rains!? It sounds amazing in the vanilla especially when there is a storm and really adds to the atmosphere as you can hear the rain pouring down around you. Since your mod is supposed to enhance the whole atmospheric experience I'm really surprised this wasn't fixed and nobody else seems to have picked up on this or commented on it! I foolishly didn't play the game vanilla on first playthrough so always assumed that the rain just didn't make any sound.

There is also an issue when it gets foggy where there is a large black box in the sky where the sun should be and also directly in front of the stalker in the fog. Turning off Sun rays and Sun shadow makes it go away so I imagine it is some kind of conflict with the sun and the fog effect. It sucks that I either have to mess around with the settings or save and reload the game to get it to go away (and then the fog is gone entirely).

It really is a shame that these issues will never be fixed because everything else about the mod is superb.

These issues will never be fixed because they occur very rarely and on certain computers only.

Black square during the fog seems to be some kind of driver issue. I'm aware of that but couldn't find what's causing that on some computers.

Because no one ever had a problem with the rain sound.
Delete rain.ogg (IIRC) from my mod and you should have vanilla rain sound back.

That worked thanks. After playing with headphones I can now hear that there is a actually rain SFX with the mod but it is just really quiet and mostly gets drowned out by other environment sounds. Even when it's supposed to be raining heavily during a fierce storm it sounds like a gentle shower.

It also looks like sometimes when you save while it is raining and load it up again the sound is gone completely. This could have been an issue with the vanilla game though.

I'd recommend that anyone that downloads this switches back to the vanilla rain sound by deleting the rain.ogg files. Compare for yourself and hear the difference.

This mod is stunning! It makes this game look so realistic. Just adds to what S.T.A.L.K.E.R is most known for, it's atmosphere.
