Star Wars: The New Era is the first large Star Wars modification made on a next generation engine. It is produced by Invision Games, a group of modders and Star Wars fans that have evolved from the Movie Battles 2 community and a mod team working on "Star Wars: Source" before.

The New Era - what does that mean?
The goal behind TNE is to create a Star Wars mod that not only appeals to fans due to its authenticity, but also takes advantage of the latest technologies in game design. While other engines come and go, the VALVe Source Engine enables us to let the mod grow together with the engine.
The engine allows us to create a Star Wars mod with the most intense atmosphere you experienced so far on the PC.

Gametypes
TNE starts off as a multiplayer modification, but a singleplayer is in the planning stage as well. We follow the goal of providing fun and challenging gameplay for every taste. While some players like fast gametypes like Team Deathmatch or Capture the Flag, others prefer more tactical gametypes. Some like guns, some love lightsabers.
Invision Games tries to provide all of this in one mod. As a result, the workload is very high and thus, we are heading towards an episodic release strategy:

  • Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch
Play quick games where you do not necessarily have to rely on your team. Gain map control by securing weapon and item respawns and defeat your enemies with quick weapon combos.
  • Capture the Flag
Use teamwork to steal the enemies' flag and take it back safely to your home base. Use the wide array of weaponry to breach into an enemy base or to defend your own carrier.
  • Team Assault
Known from the popular Movie Battles 2 mod, this strategic gametype requires thinking and extensive teamplay. Pick a player class, customize it and complement one another. Only with good teamwork and a strategy, you will be able to fulfill the game objectives.
  • Duel
Not so interested in guns? You prefer the ways of the Force instead? Measure your skills with the Lightsaber against Jedi or Sith players in the duel mode.

Features
"An elegant weapon from more civilized times"
Star Wars: The New Era will introduce to you a well-balanced combat system not only consisting of ballistic weapons from the Star Wars universe. You will also have the possibility to engage in Lightsaber duels. Instead of an arcade system, we will provide to you a tactical Lightsaber combat system which can be used against Force users as well as gunners.

"The Force can be a strong ally - or a terrible foe"
VALVe's implementation of the Havoc physics engine has already proven to enrich gameplay and fun in Half-Life², seeing the many fans of the Graviton Gun. We proceed even further and provide your favourite heroes with Force powers as an effective, yet balanced weapon against others.

"An extensive space saga"
Authenticity is one of the key aspects in TNE. With highly detailed settings from the movies and expanded universe, we try to give you the best Star Wars experience possible. Part of this authenticity is also a server-side setup that will allow you to select between the eras of the Star Wars universe: Fight during the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War - the choise is yours.

The project "Star Wars: The New Era" has been launched in late 2006 as a spin-off project of the famous Movie Battles 2 for Jedi Academy. Ever since, our team has grown and we have been able to welcome several very talented artists. Now, after a year of intense production phase and despite initial doubts, we reached a state that we could only hope for in the beginning: The mod is approaching its release!

Shuttle makes it possible: Invision Games introduces Star Wars: The New Era for its premiere event on the biggest Science Fiction convention in Europe - the FedCon 17. From April 18th to April 20th, we will not only be showing trailers and handing out flyers - you will also be able to play TNE for the first time: On a brand-new complete Shuttle XPC system. Shuttle kindly supports our event with 14 of these unique gaming systems. As Yoda would say: "Size Matters Not..."
The Shuttle XPC is a very small and portable system packed with gaming power you would expect from a full desktop-size computer.

Since Star Wars: The New Era
takes advantage of the advanced graphics of the Source Engine, these high powered systems will allow you to have an authentic gaming experience with TNE.

During the event, you will have the unique opportunity to play TNE for the first time in LAN, in matches of 6vs6 players. In this first episodic release, the gametypes "Team Deathmatch" and "Capture the Flag" will be available. In addition to the opportunity to play the mod, a couple of developers from Invision Games will be around to answer your questions and to introduce you into the game.
As a special we will be holding a contest and giving away prizes:

  • TNE posters autographed by the developers
  • Become a TNE character: The winner will be introduced as a playable character in Star Wars: The New Era

Apart from the TNE premiere, the FedCon 17 will also be interesting to you if you are a science fiction fan. 18 guest stars from Star Trek, Stargate, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5 will host panels in front of the expected 5.000 visitors and will also sign autographs and will be available for photo sessions with the fans. Among these guest stars are:

  • LeVar Burton - Geordi LaForge (Star Trek: TNG)
  • Brent Spiner - Data (Star Trek: TNG)
  • John de Lancie - Q (Star Trek)
  • Michael Shanks - Daniel Jackson (Stargate: SG-1)
  • Steve Bacic - Telemachus Rhade (Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda)
  • Jamie Bamber - Lee 'Apollo' Adama (Battlestar Galactica)
  • Mary McDonnell (Independence Day)
  • Bruce Boxleitner - President Sheridan (Babylon 5)

Brent Spiner Michael Shanks Mary McDonnell Steve Bacic

In addition the the guest stars, the fans are a major attraction of this event as well. Workshops, costume contests and merchandising booths are also part of the FedCon. One of the largest fan groups to attend the FedCon is the popular 501st legion, the biggest Star Wars costume group.

We hope to see as many of you as possible during this event. For your ease, here is all the data you need to plan your stay:

First of all: I am sorry about the delay. I'm sure you waited curiously for some news from FedCon. First thing I can say is: It's been a blast! Second thing, which also explains the delay: Have you ever heard of a phenomenon called "con-blues"? When I first went to that convention, people warned me about that effect which would cause a certain depression and demotivation to do anything straight after the con. What seemed like a joke to me at first is actually a fact and has to do with the tremendous mood and excitement that FedCon brings along. However, we're finally back again and here's our report. Click "read more" to read our convention diary and for some information about the release delay.
