I think I saw a shader for fluid particles in Nvidia's papers. It had something do do with rendering the particles to a Depth buffer, creating world space normals from that, and lighting it deferred style. I think there was a "thickness" buffer in there too that controlled color saturation or something. Ofc I'm explaining this with my nonexistent knowledge on how shaders work.
It ends up looking pretty nice if done right.
I have no idea if this effect can be achieved in Source though.

Three people don't get that there's no way any realistic simulation of slogging around in 100+ pounds of armor, while having a 60 pound sword fight with an equally heavy and slow opponent could even be remotely entertaining. Chivalry is doing it the way it has to be done: unrealistic and quick. Visceral, yes. Logical, no.

I think you should relight this to accommodate for DP's RTL features.
And on a personal note, the weapons felt completely useless. The sound design was alright, but when someone got shot they didn't even flinch and the only impact effect was some lameass red puff of smoke. Come the hell on, I'd have preferred no blood at all if they could punch it up with an impactful spark effect and still get the T rating they wanted.
Oh, no doubt it was well done, I just feel like it was made for a different game. Something like this calls for the startling thunderclaps of the firearms in Christopher Nolan movies than it does the bass heavy punches shown here.
I think a game like this calls for more deafening and impactful gun sound effects.

I know what to look for, mang.... It's just that I don't really see the scattering around where it should be. There's plenty under the chin it looks like, but it's way too subtle on the ears and nose. I assume that this was a test for the shader, not the actual assets that it uses. Maybe there's no sss map... idk.

What I mean is that they're usually featured in games in environments where they would never be. It's like lightning with no clouds.

Stuff like that with the sun is fine imo. lightshafts from the sun never made too much sense to me anyway. There are only really rare occasions where they'd appear in the fashion they do in most games... most of which would result in extreme atmospheric haze along with the effect (which is never the case). Crysis and Gears 3 would be the biggest offenders of this.
Having this effect in dark dusty areas like you have been showing in this demo is great though.
When it comes to outdoors lightshafts, I would prefer it if there were small volumes of the effect around the ground (15 ft at it's highest) to simulate pockets of not-quite-settled dust. Would make more sense, though I have no idea how it could be done.
I'm so glad the light itself doesn't need to be on screen in order for these to work. Post processing lightshafts are cool and all, but make no damn sense.

The only thing I don't like about these is the color scheme. Something about the utilitarian black guns in the first iteration was just so ******* cool. It's kinda gone now. The lights and the gray are what do it. Could we just see a permutation of one of these guns (maybe just colored over) with a more O:source style scheme?
