Turok: Evolution

Game review

A flawed gem and was sadly rushed out to release to try and save the sinking ship that was Acclaim studios. I really hope it gets a remaster one day. Many people want it not just me.

Rainbow Six: Black Ops 2.0

Mod review

Thank you to the devs of this mod it works pretty much perfectly just download it and launch it. I had to set the compatibility mode to Windows XP, but after that it worked fine.

Far Cry 4

Game review

Quite possibly the overall best game in the series and my personal favourite. Far Cry 4 was not the big step forward that Far Cry 3 was it did not change much, but it does polish everything up from 3 and adds tons more, making it a worthy sequel.

The game made many small changes that add a lot to the experience. Autodrive, shooting when driving in cars, grapple hook so you can climb, more intuitive map that looks great, tweaked gunplay with polished up animations, crafting and hunting felt like less of a chore, and earning money also felt like less of a chore thanks to a higher base wallet size. You can now use bait to lure in the many dangerous animals and use them to cause chaos, and that is a huge improvement. Far Cry 4 is just a bigger, more pretty version of 3 and that is not a bad thing.

The world is larger and even more interesting than the map in 3. 4s world is stunning and a real show-piece on PC. With everything maxed out, it can still bring modern pcs to its knees at times. 3 was gorgeous and 4 is even more pretty. I use some reshade to bring out the colours and textures, and the game just looks photorealistic at times. The areas that have snow are also just beautiful and look so real.

The world is more interactive, trees sway in the wind and there is moving fog and moving foliage when the player moves through it. 3 had very little of this. Areas that have water look gorgeous, I could go on and on, it's really a stunning game.
AI is improved over 3. It was way too easy at times in 3 to just use stealth the enemies barely noticed you if you maintained a distance and used the bushes for cover which was fun but got old pretty fast. In 4 you can be spotted much faster, and you can not get away with as much, making more challenging gameplay.

There are tons of animals in 4s world they all look amazing and have better animations than anything in 3 it really helps with immersion. There are Elephants and Rhinos now, and you can even ride the Elephants once you unlock the skill, and yes it's insane.

The story is not quite as good as the one in 3 but lets the player make really important choices that can affect the story. It's a personal story, and it's still one of the better ones in the franchise. Pagin min is one of the best characters in the entire series also. He easily rivals Vass and just steals the scene every time he appears.

The audio design is honestly breathtaking, at times there is some amazing music in this game. Some of it beautiful and some of it haunting, Sadly a lot of it is gone because of a bug that the devs never sorted out, so I highly recommend getting that fixed by using the Golden Path mod. It fixes tons of issues and brings back the gorgeous music that plays in game.

4 was not a huge leap forward when compared to 3, but it is still a very good game. Far Cry 3 was a revolution, while 4 is more of an evolution and polishing of what 3 was.

I highly recommend Far Cry 4 it's a beautiful and really fun game. Its only crime was it came out after 3 a game it can never really outshine despite being better in many ways.

Far Cry 3

Game review

One of the most satisfying games I have ever played. It's pretty hard to put into words just how good and how much of a step-up Far Cry 3 was when it was released. Far Cry 3 is often called one of the greatest games ever made, and i very much agree.

Firstly, Far Cry 3 still has the best narrative in any Far Cry game and still has the overall best characters. But It's so much more than its story.

Far Cry 3 changed the series forever and had a huge influence on games from that point on. Far Crys 3s now very normal gameplay was not that when it was first released. The Ubisoft formula was actually new and fresh and very addicting, and it was done the best in Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 3 improved so much from the past games also. Far Cry 2 was a good but sadly flawed experience and was often more annoying than fun. It's the complete opposite with 3.

The gameplay is so smooth and there is so much to do and everything is well implemented into the game and everything makes sense.

Every other far cry game since has pretty much been a copy and paste of number 3, and it's a shame honestly because it waters down just how great 3 is.

I see so many people these days stating that 3 is overrated and all I can say is if you played far cry 1 then 2 then 3 you will understand why it is considered such a big deal.

The stealth system that every far cry game now has, Well it was first done in 3. A ton of the guns and weapons were added first in 3. The amazing and so satisfying stealth take-downs that you can do in a variety of ways that everyone loves, yup that was first done in 3.

All the animals such as Tigers and Bears, wild dogs, sharks that now interact with the player and can be used to attack enemies, yup once again it was first done in 3. Yes, there were animals in 1 and 2, but they really did not do much. The world in Far Cry 3 is very much alive. The crafting system and collecting things to sell from the open world along with the wing suit....all first done in Far Cry 3

I could go on and on, so much was added and done so well in 3 that barely anything else had to be done in the later games. You really can not add much to a game that is nearly perfect.

The game looked amazing for its time. The island is huge and is full of dense beautiful scenery, it really was a sight to behold. It has aged a tad now, but it can still look beautiful with some reshade added. I often find myself just getting lost and taking screenshots because it just looks so gorgeous.

The open world is massive, very detailed and full of content, but not over bloated like the rest of the later games. Far Cry 3 while not on the same level as 2 is still very immersive, and you still feel like you are in danger in its world. This is something that also will get less and less in the games that came out after. It's a desperate survival.

Ubisoft created something special with Far Cry 3 and I don't think they will ever make another Far Cry game that has as much impact as this one. I have played them all and none of them have impressed me more than 3 (even though Far Cry 2 has a ton of interesting features also)

Far Cry 3 is a classic and everyone should play it.

Crysis 3 Remastered

Game review

A great remaster to a truly beautiful game. First thing first, Crysis 3 is beyond beautiful. It has some of the best looking environments I have ever seen in any game period. This game was a graphical monster when it released back in 2013, and it still looks fantastic now, it has some of the best looking water rendering ever and some beautiful lighting. Pretty much everything in the game just looks amazing.

Gameplay is so smooth and fun. Crytek really perfected the gameplay here, it's the best in the whole series. Stealth is much more fun now because of the new bow, and messing around with the soldiers using your nano suit is still super entertaining. Animations are really well done and the weapons look and feel so good to use. The gun play is so good here.

The only real issue with Crysis 3 is it's very short, it's around 6 hours long, which is a shame. However, the levels are large and open and give the player a number of paths and options to complete the missions. So you can really take your time and get some more replayability out of it.

I very much recommend Crysis 3 and the remaster plays great.

Crysis

Game review

Back in 2007 there was no game as cool as Crysis. The game took the gaming world by storm because of just how great it looked. There was never a game that looked as good or as real as Crysis back when it first dropped. I honestly can not stress enough just how amazing the visuals were at the time. Crysis still to this day has some of the best looking jungle environments that have ever been in any game ever, and the alien ship level was beyond beautiful back in 2007. Crysis was also a pioneer to graphical features that are now the norm in today's gaming world.

The game was so far ahead of everything that barely any PCs could even run it at a decent frame rate. It really did feel like a game from the future. Because of this it would take a few years before anything could run it well at its highest settings. Despite this many gamers wanted so many games remade using the Crysis engine just because of how remarkable it was. Those were good times.

Crysis is so much more than its impressive graphics, however. Its gameplay is very addicting and fun. It feels great when using the nano suit to confuse the soldiers, there are so many options when playing. The firefights are really impressive because of the amazing physics in the game. Objects can fly all over the place, the player can grab objects and throw them huts can explode into pieces trees can be cut down and foliage moves and sways and looks great even now. The levels are huge and open and just full of detailed forests and beautiful landscapes everywhere, it was very impressive back then.

In many ways, Crysis is a sequel or more of a remake to the very first game Crytek ever made, which was the impressive Far cry. It's just that everything that Far Cry did well, Crysis does so much better. The story is told better, the voice acting is miles ahead the levels are larger the AI is better, and it just feels so much more polished and big budget when compared to Far Cry.

Crysis was a huge step-up and everyone paid attention. It set the standard for graphics for years to come and pushed PC gaming into the future.
Crysis is a must-play, I highly recommend the game in its original form or the remaster. Many people dislike the remaster, but I honestly love it and think it looks stunning even better than the original version, and the performance is great (well it is on my PC). There are also some great mods made by the fans that add very detailed HD textures to the original version of the game, and they make the game look even more amazing (you will need a decent PC however).

Crysis is a landmark in PC gaming, and I really hope we get Crysis 4 at some point.

Unreal Tournament

Game review

Unreal Tournament has been hailed by critics as one of the best fps games ever made, and that is indeed the truth. The game is as close as perfect as you can get when it comes to sheer fun factor.

You can lose hours and hours to this game, and i and millions of others have done just that. There is a ton of content here tons of maps tons of different skins for the bots and a ton of things you can customize not to mention the huge amount of mods and user made content that has been made throughout the years.

The weapons all look and feel great to use, an improvement over Unreal. The bot AI is still to this day pretty amazing, some of the very best ever made. You can spend a whole play session just messing around and customizing the bots. You can edit their skill levels their appearance, change their names, et. Be warned on the higher skill levels they will kick your *** over and over. Unreal Tournament as a high skill ceiling.

The game might not look like much now, but back in the day the Unreal Engine was beautiful, a real sight to behold, and it ran and still runs amazingly well with the right patches installed.
I highly recommend getting the direct X 11 patch and then downloading the beautiful high resolution texture packs for the environments and the weapons and player skins.

You can then make the game look pretty great even now. It will give you a glimpse of how people saw Unreal Tournament back when it was first released. Also, the soundtrack is as godlike as one can be, just like the original Unreal game.

I could go on and on about how much I love this game, but I will leave it here. And if you ask me which game was better, Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament ....well both games are as close to perfect as fps arena shooters can be.

Both will take hours away from you and I will give Quake 3 a slight upper hand when it comes to graphics but even then it's close, but if I have to choose which game is the more fun and the one I have played more, that is and likely will always be Unreal Tournament.

Quake 2

Game review

Quake 2 was a phenomenon when it was first released. It was often being called the greatest fps game ever made, and its influence can still be felt today.

It was a huge step-up technology wise and for its time just looked and played better than anything around it. Furthermore, it pushed PC tech further than anything before, everyone wanted a new PC just to play Quake 2 at its best. The graphics, while not a big deal now, were extremely detailed compared to anything else it had better animation work than the first Quake, larger and more complex environments with huge moving parts to a level, and it was all true 3d.

The coloured lighting was also a big step-up at the time The enemies were more detailed and had some great animation work, so were the gun models that looked so much better than the ones in Quake 1.
I don't have to say much about the soundtrack, it's perfect for the game and is often said to be one of the best soundtracks to any fps game it's a big adrenaline rush.

Its single player was great and is one of IDS more polished campaigns much, more polished than Quake 1 (fight me lol I'm not wrong) it actually had finished boss battles great pacing and an actual story you could follow pure and simply Quake 2 was not rushed. Certain areas of the single player are still very impressive, like the torture chambers and the processing plant where you see tortured marines get....well, you can see for yourself when you play it. Quake 2 does have a limited colour pallet, but things pick up later in the single player and more colour does appear, plenty of reds, blues, green, yellow.

Quake 2 also felt a lot more real compared to anything at the time, but its multiplayer was hugely popular and is what the game is most known for. Pretty much everyone wanted to play the multiplayer, it was addicting. The game had many new features that games simply did not have or could not do yet.

I could go on and on, It's easy to hate Quake 2 these days because the Quake 1 fans have got much louder as time goes on, but Quake 2 was just something else when it first released, and it should be respected now. Please have a look at the new remaster from Knightdive it's the perfect way to get into Quake 2.

Turok

Game review

A classic FPS and was the first true great fps on a console. Before Golden eye and before Halo there was Turok the Dinosaur hunter.

Turok was a breath of fresh air when it first released. It had great graphics with fancy lighting effects and some really great animation work. It really made the Nintendo 64 look great. Furthermore, it also had pretty huge environments and some really fun weapons.

This new remaster is the very best version of the game to play, it runs smooth as hell and looks even better than it did before. Turok is pretty underrated these days and i hope the series comes back soon.
