I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!

You use XSI and Mudbox right? This looks pretty neat!

It's work in progress. I still have to work on the detail. It's mainly a texturing and baking experiment. Have to detail the rest next and then do the retopo.

And yes - XSI + Mudbox is my setup.

I have a serious problem with mudbox camera controls with mouse. I assume you're using a pen?

For the most part I use a pen. Most important is to hold alt when you are moving things with the mouse. However, it is quite confusing to me too, because it's so similar to XSI, but not identical.

If you're gonna sculpt, a pen is the best thing to use, yeah. It's actually need about Mudbox that you just have to plug in your tablet and the preferences work perfectly with the pen. First program yet that worked for me without having to change anything excep language (german to english).

oi! too smooth!

here's how concrete breaks: Cires.colorado.edu

there's the completely flat area, then a hard edge around the damaged part. your sculpt has rounded edges everywhere.
nice to see you delving deeper into 3d with every post though :)

Yep, good call. Concrete breaks differently! Unfortunately Mudbox doesn't let me restore the hard corner (erase doesn't work well), so I had to either: go again, or go with it. Flatten and Erase are practically pointless brushes in Mudbox' sculpt section; I am thinking of switching to ZBrush, but first I need to finish a few objects.

I decided to go with it, since it's a practical exercise, mostly about baking and textures. This is the third time I use Mudbox and I keep forgetting how to organize models there. Next time I'll be more cautious and use more sculpt layers!

Thanks for the feedback, it's motivating to read comments and surely will help me improve my workflow!

something new I'mworking on to refine the different baking techniques. Looks like fun. I guess with future pieces I will spend more time on detail. At the moment it's all about getting new stuff in da head :)
